Mage special abilities not available
Mage special abilities not available
Hi
Twice now I had the opportunity to choose special abilities for my mage (now level 19) at the time of levelling.
However, the star symbol that accesses special abilities in most of the others is 'greyed out'. Is there another way to access these abilities? Do they kick in later?
This is a mod, namely Tsujatha. Could this be a bug?
Getting a bit annoyed with Tsujatha, in any case. For an evil guy, he's far too pleasant. I've taken to annoying him on purpose but actually had to reload when he got too p***ed at me for taking that Drow up on the hot oil massage...

First off, "pissed" isn't considered profanity, here. But if you do try to get around the vulgarity filter, you will be receive a pretty hefty infraction. According to the site owner's rules:
#3 - Profanity and/or sexually explicit posts are unacceptable. Purposely posting profanity in a way as to avoid our filter will not be tolerated. In extreme cases, we may even file complaints with your ISP or hosting company.
We're in the US. Other general admission sites on our server have gotten knocked off by net nannies. We've been around 6 years, and we're not about to lose our site because of a flurry of swear words.

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Bizarre!
I hardly posted a "flurry" of swear words - in fact according to you I didn't use even one.
Nor did I mean to. I would think I'm not the only one who thinks that using those little stars in place of some letters is an acceptable way to express such things. Avoiding a spam filter wasn't even my intent - posting an IMPLIED profanity was. True, I could have written "ticked" or something and it would have done as well. I'm sorry if it upset you.
Meanwhile, do you have an answer to my query?

don't take it personally
Fable explained to me when I was near-the-knuckle that the site has US restrictions which are much worse than UK ones - we swear all the time on-line and nobody bothers, but in the USA a glimpse of nipple is worthy of enormous fines for broadcasters - ironic really, as it's the land of "Gang-Bang Sluts vol 407" where obscene amounts of money are passed by Congess to pay for a war that 90% of people in the world didn't consider appropriate. mass death OK, nipples bad - what kind of obsenity culture is that?
anyhow, rant over - our facility to use these places requires us to obey their laws so you just need to avoid the naughtiest of words - or ones that they consider bad.
as for your query - it fooled me - look at your level 9 level spells - you'll see the special ability spells there usually. I thought you got them as abilities, but with clerics and mages, they are classed as top level spells.

No, no, no, no, *no*!
The high level spells do not appear in the 'special abilities' menu. Most mages don't have any special abilities, and therefore their 'star-shaped' button is grey.
Spells like summon planetar or alacrity or whatever are in the spellbook, lvl9 page.

yes yes yes there is a bug, I don't remember what causes it, but the end result is: you cannot unload a sequencer because the button is greyed out you can't dispell it in anyway and if you try casting another one it will say you can't have more than 2 and the only way to fix this is to kill the person in question and ressurect. the best way I've found to avoid this is to cast sequencers right away and prepare them only when needed.
edit: but in his case there is no bug involved your absolutly correct; the level 10 spells he selects should appear in the level 9 spell selection of his normal arcane spell book

Right... sorry if I sounded too... strict, but I felt you were misleading Shine with those sequencers... [blush]. The sequencers do wanish sometimes, and no-one seems to know why. Buggrit. But, back to subject, only sequencers and similar stuff appears in the special ability menu if you are a pure class mage. That's why the button is gray most of the time. Jedi, your kill-and-rise strategy reminds me of a RPG session I had, where our party was so evil that my rouge got killed by party necromancer because he needed a corpse...

I think mages and clerics may have been given the shaft with special abilities. I know they get stupidly powerful but the majority of their HLAs take the place of other spells. Other classes get their HLAs in addition to their other abilities. Almost doesn't seem fair but maybe it is a balancing thing...
"Korax thinks you look very tasty today...
the various creatures that mages and clericas can call up as special ability spells are absurdly powerful. not only tough as old boots, but spellcasters themselves - I think they would unbalance the game if they were in addition to the normal spells, as it is like temporarily having an enormous number of extra spells. I use summon woodland creatures to get dryads as a way of getting some extra mass healing spells - to have those uber-creatures with all their levels is like having an extra party member of considerable power.
it seems only right for that to require the loss of some other spell-slot.
I really like getting to those levels and having those creatures to send in to a situation - the AI is equal to that for the enemy and they don't mess about.
"let slip the dogs of war!", I say.
