Making the best of it? (Spoiler Warning)

Post by buzeel1 »

Hi I just finished the game (again) a minute ago, and am still under the influence of it.

That music in the end clip gets me every time. Makes me wanna play the whole damn series over again.

I know, I know, I need to get a life, and not get attached to imaginary characters.

Well anyway, to get to the point..

This is the most efficient play I have had so far. I got to level 28 and needed only 2000xp to get to 29. And I had something like 85 max damage on my sabre and 52 attack (I was a guardian and invested everything in strength)

And I noticed this:
This is the second time I played as a guardian, and seems like I get better items this way.
For example, I got zersium rifle before I even went to dantooine to face the Jedi.
I got Iotran (or whatever its called) armor, and a whole bunch of other things more early in the game.

So here is my question.
Is this really the class that brings the goodies earlier in the game?
Or is the XP tied to the class or what...

So to make the best of it, I want to play the game one more time, and
this time use the best combination for getting items and experience

So can you tell me. Which combination gives most good items early in the game and is most likely to get me to level 30?

woman, man, dark, light, classes etc.

Which is the most XP rich and gets the best items earlier in the game?

thanks

There are many here that believe the amount of times you finish the game, the better the items you find. I must have about 20+ games finished & the items in random drops seem to be getting better. So I guess that would be my answer to you.

The amount of times you finished the game doesn't change anything; really, it doesn't.

But I have no answer to your question buzeel1, I really don't know what will give you most experience and most attack+damage aswell as best items.

that really makes no sense Walter

Unless you are suggesting that the game keeps record of how many times you have played it and then determines which items you get?

I have formated my drive a couple of times since I've first gotten this game, so there is no way that the game could know how many times I've played.

I've been putting it down to the items distribution being "random". Honestly in my opinion, it kind of sucks - I've played the game through four times now and twice I didn't get the Circlet of Saresh, which I seriously could've used when I played Guardian/Weaponmaster. It didn't really matter that my force powers/force points were weak, since he really kicked tail in melee combat, but it still would've been nice to use Force Wave on multiple opponents and have it knock down/stun more than one or two of them, especially in the endgame on Malachor.

Part of what drove my choices in the order I visited worlds in KotOR I was knowing when and where I could pick up certain items... for instance if I was playing a Guardian with low wisdom, I would usually stop by Kashyykk first thing to pick up the circlet and Jolie, but if I was playing a consular, it was low on my list of priorities. That and knowing that I would get an item changed my gameplay.

I got 3 of them this time.
It was kind of funny because its seems like such an unique artefact in the galaxy, yet I had 3 "originals".
Next time call me on the comlink its 555-327-Echo , I'll give you one.

The XP doesn't depend on your class. As far as I can recall, there are no XP differences depending on your sex either; you'll get a different NPC joining your party, but I'm pretty sure nothing you can do with either of them yields XP.

Being DS does provide an extra XP opportunity. There's a character who only joins your crew if you are DS. The conversations with him can yield 4000XP. The LS character can't give you XP.

I've managed level 30, and I'm currently hoping for level 31 this time through (without using any bugs, cheats or exploits). Some things to note if you are trying for maximised XP:

1) Make sure you have a high enough DEM and SEC to recover all mines and open all locks. Every mine gives you one hundredth of a level, every lock one two-hundredth. Falling over mines and bashing doors is wasting XP. Make sure you switch your party members to Stationary so they don't fall over them either. And remember, it's your actual level, not your XP: you'll lose out here holding back levels.

2) When Kreia is in your party, she provides a small bonus to all XP gained from plot advancement, mines and locks (though not, for some reason, killing things). keep her in your party whenever possible, only switching her out to avoid losing INF with her (because she has a lot of XP available for INF). Similarly, when you do something to a companion which gives you XP, do it on a planet with Kreia present if this is possible, ratehr than on the ship, where she doesn't count as present.

3) Remember that the level of an enemy is set when you FIRST enter a map area. If you go away elsewhere and gain levels, you'll find that the amount of XP you gain from killing those enemies is reduced. For example, an enemy that would have been worth 250XP if you'd killed it at first might only be worth 50XP if you come back later to the area after gaining a few levels.

4) Remember that any XP gained while your PC isn't in the party doesn't in fact count, and isn't transferred to you. So avoid doing anything non-essential while your PC isn't present, if it's possible to do it later when he is. This particularly applies on Peragus, GOTO's yacht, and in the base under the Jekk Jekk. Sneak/run by enemies if you can, rather than killing them, and don't open locks you don't have to. Then return as the PC and get the XP.

I have loads more specific tips (I've been working on this maximum XP thing for some months now); send me a PM or whatever if you're interested.

Yes, that is the working theroy. If you open the game directory with the save game editor you will see your current game as a number higher then your last and then the name you put in. I have not deleted any games though so as I said, it's only a theroy.
Just seems that the more I play, the better the items in the random drop. Or maybe I'm just getting used to things..... not sure.

The game doesn't reuse numbers if you delete games; it just carries on as before, from your last number.

But the number of save games you have only tells the game how many times you've saved; it's perfectly possible, in theory, to use only one save slot, ever, through hundreds of games...or to save 100 times in half an hour.

I'm wondering if it has a counter of how many times you've defeated the Final Baddie ie. finished the game.

ve played the game so many times. i found that the guardian/maurader was the best and had most XP and got to level 30. if you use the infiniate fdark side glitch/cheat you may get there faster. its what i always do.

( yes yes this ismy first post in about 4-5 months still plying though)

I don't think class makes any difference, does it? If so, how?

If you want a quick and easy ride, at least in the second half of the game, Consular/Lord with high WIS and CHA is best(+10 or so modifier for each, including items; very little survives one burst of Force Storm, and, of course, it hits everyone in the room. Makes Malachor a doddle.

I have got to level 31 (without using any cheats or exploits) twice now, but have never made 32. This time round I was 14k XP short. *sigh*. Maybe next time I'll manage it...

I've edited the title of this thread to reflect the fact that spoilers are being discussed. Keep in mind the forum policy regarding discussing spoilers as a thread topic. If you do so, you are required to include a spoiler warning in the thread title. Thanks.

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm genuinely confused. I've read and re-read this thread and I can't see anything that I can understand is a spoiler. Could you clarify for us which things you consider spoilers, so I, for one, can avoid making any future mistakes? All that's been discussed is gameplay, as far as I can see, not plot...

(I would have made this a PM, except that it occurs that other might want to hear it too)
