dual class question
dual class question
I'd just appreciate some quick help thanks. I don't know if I'm just missing something obvious or what but my kensai just hit lvl 9 and now I want to dual him to mage. The problem is the dual class button is grayed out, no clickie...
yes I'm human.
It's a kensai...
Neutral evil...
258k xp, lvl 9
6 player party: vic, korg, minsc, edwin, and jan
now I've never actually dual-classed before, but I was under the impression that it's as simple as clicking the button...so any ideas on why it's grayed out?

You might not have a sufficient Intelligence score and thus can't dual class.
You must have enough points in the primary statistic in order to dual class.
What are your stats?

con 18
dex 18
int 18
wis 16
cha 3
mage has a minimum charisma req maybe? I'll make a change in shadow keeper and see if that helps.
edit: still grayed out, those stats should be sufficient for dual to mage. I mean, the game won't even let me press the button, much less get to picking a class.

There are minimums in both your starting and your dualed class. If I remember correctly you need at least 16 in strength to dual FROM fighter. - Curdis !Blitzer wrote:str 14

very odd to have given priority to wis over str - I appreciate that the savin throws are helped, but the unadjusted str really needs to be 15+ for a fighter and I would always go with 18str for a potential dual class and sacrifice the wis.
str - carrying plus to hit and opening - you may want to use the girdle slot for an AC benefit.
dex - AC
con - all those lovely HP
int - a mage? 17/18
wis - saving throws and lore
cha - get the ring in the circus, nymph cloak, helm of glory and blade of roses - that's 18+2+1+1 = 22 cha.
that ring is just too tempting a way of getting cha.

Meanwhile charisma is pretty much worthless. When I shop, I just put the ring of human influence on. That's all charisma's good for.
I share your sentiments - I usually produce cha3 rollups and use the points elsewhere. the ring is so early in the game that you just lose the use of a ring-slot temporarily.Blitzer wrote: Meanwhile charisma is pretty much worthless. I didn't know about wish abuse - but had assumed wis made saving throw adjustments.
in future I'll drop it a bit - probably.
