fable wrote:As you know, Ultima V was released 18 years ago, so while a new release of it is nice to see, it doesn't count as a new title. The Avernums and Geneforges? People as objects: "Get Quest Thingee A for me and I'll give you Skill Thingee B. My Faction C is anti-mage and opposed to D, E, and F. Won't you join?" That's not much of an exaggeration. Comparing these games to, say, BG2 or especially the writing in PS:T is like comparing See Spot Run to Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Whimsey. Age of Decadence? Why bring up products that no one has tried, yet, because they haven't been made? And even if we accept your argument concerning one or two indie titles, that only reinforces the point that intellectual maturity and creativity outside graphics have moved completely away from the computer gaming industry.
Seems I had some shaky arguments. Yet, the games are there and surely provide more RPG than the ususal AAA title that gets released nowadays (except the Gothics in some cases - and you're totally right about AoD). And what's that about the industry? IMO indie devs are definitely part of the industry.

Btw, do you read your PMs?

They function as part of a capitalist marketplace society, yes, and to that extent, they are part of the industry. But to call them part of the computer gaming industry is like pointing to a little manufacturer that turns out 75 cars a year for multi-millionaires and term them part of the auto industry. In the largest sense, yes; but not if you want to discuss trends in the field, profit-and-loss, expected upgrades, performance, or markets. I think we're looking at the products most RPG players know about, and buy, the ones that are available in general distribution. Though I suspect the argument against creativity in the field might be extended to indies, as well. It just doesn't pay well enough to pay creativity in this field, not when all the outlets are hogged by The Industry.

Yes, though I usually check new messages first, and answer a few. So as I just signed on after leaving for a couple of hours, you might civilly wait for a bit. Remember, we all have outside jobs. Paying ones, at that. ;)
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Or Prelude to Darkness if you don't mind some bugs and crashes every now and then (the next version is to be released shortly). Also an indie RPG with great story, great game play, all the choices and consequences you can get and pretty much ignored by almost anybody on this board...

...honestly, what is it with this forum? Many of you just whine and moan about how bad recent RPGs are and when you're presented with quality RPGs you just shut your eyes and keep on hoping that NWN2 will be the next Fallout or what? Sorry if this is offensive, not intended. Just...here are two RPGs that are really worth being covered on this board and if I post about 'em I'm pretty much ignored every time. I payed about 12 Euro for Teudogar and finished it yesterday (actually, I've already finished a couple of times. It has multiple endings) and it's one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time.
Well I've downloaded the demo for Teudogar and the Alliance with Rome, I'll give it a go. Unfortunately Prelude doesn't seem to be available anymore, the link on the site is broken, and Amazon no longer stock it.
[QUOTE=Darth Gavinius;1096098]Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.
