Demon Key

Post by DaTippMan »

I didn't follow the thief out of the naga temple. Is it possible to get the key still or is it lost forever?

Before releasing the third thief, you should have talked to him through the bars. He promises to tell you about a treasure. Then free him and follow him to underneath the walkway. He eventually stops and gives you the Demon Key.

Since you didn't get it, you're out of luck unless you hex edit your save, or use Steve2d's editor and add the key. You don't need it though, because it's merely a side quest to fight some demon for about 1.7 million points.

I tried the editor and it says it only works w/ 1.4/1.5 when I try to load a save. My disks say 1.4 but it still doesn't work.

The game had three releases; 1.0, 1.2, and 1.5 (the latest and final). If your disks says 1.4, you apparently did not buy the game. Either do that, or complain to the person or persons that GAVE you the disks.

When you start up the game, the version should show in the lower left of the screen. If it's less than 1.4, download the "Full 1.4" patch (139 mb) and install it.

Now that you are patched to 1.4, try the editor again. Before you do, though, you have to have netframework 2.0 installed (free download from MS). Top of main page has link to the newest editor and also a link to netframework 2.0.

Once you are set, use the editor and give yourself the identify skill with 10 points or so.

I used the editor and it reset my character back to level one. Also the only identify skill I see is for disarming traps "inspect" So I reverted back to the back up. Is there another way to identify weapons or get that skill?

Did you ever find a solution to your problem?

Try looking here for a description of the skill. It is not the same as the thief skill "inspect". A few classes other than those listed also receive identify.

This is how it will look when you use the editor to give the identify skill:

You must have already edited in the demon key, I assume...
For future use with the editor and it's problem of re-setting levels, this might help...
kathycf wrote: After some experimenting I found something that works to correct this problem. Say for example you have 20,000 experience points and 8,000 advancement points and you decide to edit. The editor seems to interpret the 8,000 advancement points as being your experience level. Thus, the re-setting of levels. So, when you edit you would need to set your advancement points to be the exact same as your experience points and then you will not lose levels.

This works even if you spend all your advancement points up before editing.
I originally bought the game as 1.3 and upgraded it to the 1.4 version with the patch. Having recently received the Collector's edition, I found my above trick to work in both 1.4 and Collector's.
