Things that you only learn playing no reloads game.
I am in the process of playing my second no-reloads game, this time with a Ranger/Cleric. Always in the past, if my thief has failed to steal Algernon's Cloak, i have simply re-loaded and tried again. This time what do I do. If I kill him I lose those reputation points. I therefore set about finding out how get it without killing him and came up with two solutions, both based on the same idea.
SPOILER BELOW highlight to read

I simply charmed him and tried again, and again as many times as is necessary. Actually because you have conrol over his position. You should do it first time.
Then I realised that if I were playing an evil character, I could charm him and send him in along with the other man up their as cannon fodder to take Tranzig's worst spells. Then kill Tranzig and pick up the cloak.
END Of SPOILER
Has anyone else learnt things only because they were playing no-reloads?

No Reloads
Had to smile when I saw some months back that people tried a no reload game.
I guess I hardly reload a game when I run through because probably like yourself I've played the game that many times you know where everything is. But in terms of no reloads one of the biggest things to remember is not to get to casual about the game. It's easy to think you know everything, wander arround not up to full life or used up all your spells then you shift from one map to another, get ambushed and think Oh ****!. Biggest mistake for me is Cloakwood when ambushes can be 2 wyverns with a few pesky spiders and forgot to rest my party...to much red wine to remember what I should have done.
Also remembering where the greater basalisks!
Have fun.

I usually play with just 2 chatacters for a while then uping to four which means my biggest problem seems to be carrying round enough stuff, mind you that's usually because I'm greedy and trying to carry everything of value to then sell. I still haven't got round to using any of the "green" cleric scrolls you pick up so started just selling them off. (I liked the idea I read a few months back of leaving items in a chest or barrel so have started to use a place in Beregost).
One of the other things I thought of in a no reload is knowing where some of the web traps are, as for me with only a few characters, it can get a bit tight if two or three of your guys are paralysed.
But yes I agree about the Cure Poison potions, having a couple in each persons quick items is essential.
Last time I'll be on site before Christmas so Merry Christmas all.

The first no reloads game that I knowingly did, (I may well have done one previously without setting out to do it) was with a solo Fighter/thief. You can imagine the problems of carrying everything with just one character. On the plus side. You don't have any problems concerning cash!Barrada Kor wrote:I usually play with just 2 chatacters for a while then uping to four which means my biggest problem seems to be carrying round enough stuff, mind you that's usually because I'm greedy and trying to carry everything of value to then sell. No reloads
I was going to put this as a private message to Wise Grimwald but thought others may be interested.
Just started a no reloads game, intend to use only four characters. Can I just ask, when a character goes up a level do you accept the first score for hit points or have you reloaded for a better score?
In other words is this rule of no rloads absolute, or is it just during the game play if you know what I mean.
Thanks

I accept the first score that I get. However at the beginning of the game I am not averse to re-rolling as it does not involve reloading. That does not mean that you have to do the same however. That is just the way I play.Barrada Kor wrote:I was going to put this as a private message to Wise Grimwald but thought others may be interested.

I was just wondering if you are just doing the TOSC game or going through to ToB. If you are just doing TOSC, I would have thought that you wouldn't have had a problem unless you had poor stats to start with. To be honest, I didn't realise that the increase in constitution was a variable, so I have always just gone with whatever I have been given. You have obviously played the game a lot, so I wouldn't worry. In any case, if you find that the game beats you occasionally, it adds to the challenge. I have started to play the game at a harder level to make it more challenging.Barrada Kor wrote:Thanks, I'll let you know how I get on. However I suspect that my Druid that I was relying on as a front row fighter could be a bit short on lives later in the game.

No Reloads
Stats are very good, Fighter thief started at 94 and druid 93, yes I'm said, I sit and reroll for a couple of hours till I get the score I want.
Started game again, picking very carefully through the maps to go to, and my fighter thief has pick pocketed Dizzits +3 scimitar which has cheered my druid up considerably.
My intention is to take on ToB on the same basis of no reloads, but got to get this one first.
Things I'm avoiding...definitely the Ogre Mage at Firewine Bridge, not too good at that battle, and the gains are not huge for the risk involved for no reloads.

I'd say that you are wise, not sad. A bit of time getting good stats can be well worth while if it stops you getting killed and having to start over again. I am wondering what race your characters are. With your thief it makes quite a difference. Have you got decent armour yet? There is some nearby for your druid which I am sure that you will know about and probably have already.Barrada Kor wrote:Stats are very good, Fighter thief started at 94 and druid 93, yes I'm said, I sit and reroll for a couple of hours till I get the score I want.
