Post by Aybabtu »

I am new, by the way. I hope I'm not breaking any rules.

Anyway, I'd like to start with a beast race; an Argonian. Thing is, when I play an Imperial, Nord or Dark Elf, I can always picture what my character would do ( I'm quite big on roleplaying ). But Argonians always come off to me as the underdogs, the ones who just get caught up in events, never the protagonists of a story. So what factions could an Argonian, realistically, join. What skills would he have. What role could he play? Mage, assassin, thief, highwayman? Any ideas and past experiences would be nice :) .

Haven't played an Argonian yet, but my Bosmer is a very good assassin:laugh: and my Khajit was a very good thief, I think somewhere on these boards, I remember that DW was playing an Argonian, you might try a search. :)

My first and only argonian character was a warrior/ spellcaster, and things worked out fine for him. He ended up having sort of a three-way split personality
(two thirds good, as it were), and so he was in a few factions with conflicting views (eg. Temple and House Telvanni)

Really, you should start not with what the character does, what type of personality (s)he has. Once you've got that, everything all rolls out. Make sure to go with the racial abilities (aka use spears and/or do alchemy, etc.), and you'll do great.
Get up, stand up. Come on, throw your hands up.
If you've got the feeling, Jump across the ceiling.

Logically, to me anyway, the only Great House that's viable for an Argonian is House Redoran. The Telvanni and Hlaalu are both slave owners, however there is the Twin Lamps problem. as I recall you need to be in House Hlaalu in order to join the original Twin Lamps. In which case, logical or not House Hlaalu would be the best bet. Especially as I would recommend downloading the Twin Lamps Mod (Tribunal) here Planet Elder Scrolls - Maps, News, Oblivion, Cheats, Downloads seems a natural for an Argonian.

The professional guilds (Mages, fighters etc) are down to how you perceive your character's role. The thieves guild does have a conflict with Dren so maybe would make a natural ally.

The temple doesn't conflict with an anti-slavery approach that I can remember, but it seems somewhat incongruous for an Argonian to want to join to me.

I can't think of any reason not to join the Morag Tong, but that depends on the moral outlook of your character.

My thoughts

I would think that an argonian could be an awsome traveler/battlemage. Maybe even join the assassins guild so that when you are traveling you uncover the land and the targets that you have to kill will be easy to find. Makes for an easy occupation. It seems that you enjoy being a character that unfolds a storyline, and as a traveler you discover the land and meet all kinds of new characters. Also as a traveler you disover the best items by searching sunken ships, caves, and ruins. There are lots of misc. missions and quests and jobs to do while traveling (trust me I am a big traveler, and i've been playing for about 4 years) there are always people who need help.

I set goals for myself for the day (e.g. "Today i'm going to travel to (name a place across the map that is undicovered) and make 3 new enchanted items on the way there, and upgrade my weapon with a new enchantment") If ou have alchemy as one of your major/minor skills you can set a goal to gather certain herbs in a forgein area.

I hope this helps to you to decide. Good luck :D

I did indeed, and she is my favourite MW character.
I had her join House Redoran, both Imperial factions, and I also downloaded a variety of suitable quest and faction mods.
Basically, she's a sort of melee/caster type. Argonians are, in fact, a very well rounded race. There's really nothing that they aren't suited for.
Just make sure you select a birthsign that favours magic if you plan to do a lot of casting.

You may also find this page, which is dedicated to Argonians, helpful.
