Changed the thread title. Per the comment above, and the comment in our forum's sticky thread, you need to add SPOILER to all threads like this, Aaaaa. Not doing so in the future could see them all mysteriously disappear.

But that doesn't answer the question! Where do you find the key? I even tried casting "Knock" on the basement door, but that doesn't work.

There is no key for that door, there are 2 doors, one is an exit from the basement, which only opens from teh basement and the other door into the basement is trapped and locked (i.e. need theif skills to open).
