Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. :)
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

A wonderful, warm, intimate holiday season to all! :)

Why was "spirits" in italics? My mind wanders to the many possible reasons behind this. Mere alcohol strikes me as a poor reason for the emphasis. Considering that “cheer” is not likewise emphasized, I wonder if DW’s spirits are of a more ghostly sort. Has she been visited recently? Perhaps she was inspired this mourning to order the prize turkey from the butchers and have it delivered to the poor sots who slave away for her in her nefarious business? Just wondering.

Happy day to one and all!

Spirits and cheer go hand in hand methinks. ;)

I've certainly been into the spirits. I wish my parents had a larger supply of alcohol and mixin's to choose from.

I haven't really.. I've had one bourbon and right now I'm sipping at a very nice Black and Tan made by one of the local breweries. With dinnner, maybe a glass of wine or two... Nothing that would make me pie-eyed, that's for sure ;)

I don't know, admittedly I can't afford to be drinking a whole lot right now, but even so... I just can't put back the same amount I used to.. Must be age or something... *sigh* :o

Damn that 3 hour time difference... :D

I'm on the "Wet Coast." Same country as you, but still a Heck of a long way from Ontario. My SO's family all live in London, though, and I went to school there (UWO).

We just opened a 1995 Napa Cab Sauv, it's happily sitting in its decanter waiting to be appreciated, so feeling pretty good here :D

I'm visiting the parents. We went out to dinner. I had two Long Island Iced Teas. Nice big ones, too. The first one was mad strong; it was the first time in a while where a few sips and I could already feel the pre-buzz joys. :p Alas, it didn't last; the second drink wasn't as strong, and I had to drink it while eating food so it didn't hit me as hard. The buzz was gone by the time we got back home, but it still felt nice. :D

@Chim,
Long Islands are *deadly*
They drink waaaaay too easily, and then you don't quite notice them until you try standing up :D

Beyond the fact that I'm not keen on sweeter drinks, this is why I avoid them. Plus... anything with lots of sugar in it is far more likely to give you an ugly hangover.
Hence, I generally stick to stuff like beer, wine, Scotch, Bourbon, brandy etc.

I recall once while I was doing my BA... I got dragged out for some Long Islands one night... I woke up feeling like my head was splattered around a construction site... And, I had to type up a paper that day. I do mean "type" as well... with a *manual* typewriter (= loud clicking of keys).
*shudders* That one incident pretty much turned me off of c0cktails for life.

Anyway... All of that aside, I have to say, I've enjoyed dipping into the Christmas Spirits, I'm not feeling too much pain right now :D

We have tradition that the whole family drinks together... we usually spend 25th and 26th day just playing cards, board games and of course drinking...

So I suppose a bottle of Aquavit would do the trick? :p

Anyways... Enjoy your holidays!

I'm used to Long Islands. Last September was when I was first exposed to them. I had one and got nice and plastered on it. So, naturally, I got a second one, and I can still vaguely recall staggering out of the bar with my friend, whose house was fortunately within walking distance. Pot ensued, and lemme tell you that was the best feeling I'd ever had. :D Ever since then, Long Islands have been my poison of choice, so I'm mostly used to them (the only reason they hit me as hard as they did Christmas Eve night and Christmas night was due to my lack of alcohol consumption in recent months). Some people don't make them that strong, some do. I'm into a fruitier drink now, a Mongolian MFer (can't say the real name for fear of violating the rules  ). It's been described to me as a combination of a Long Island Iced Tea and an Alabama Slammer. It tastes a lot better than the Long Island.

I never considered a LI to be sweet; it always tasted sour to me. Now, the Mongolian, that is one sweet drink. If made properly, you can't even taste the alcohol; you'll think you're just having a fruit punch. Of course, after a few sips, you'll be so far gone you wouldn't care if you were sipping fruit punch or petrol/gasoline.
