demagorgon...more strategies please
demagorgon...more strategies please
ok, so ive read a few posts here from people saying how easy it was to take out Dem, fact is Im having bucketloads of trouble with him. Have read all the strategies but my problem is my Mage is only lvl 20 and I dont have a thief proficient enough to set all those fabulous traps everyone suggests. Anyone got any other ideas? Have also read somewhere that you can seal the keep gaining all the XP for that, then re enter via the side door take him out and get another lot of XP is this correct?

what's your party ?? are you going solo ?? you really aught to give us these things if you expect good advice.
I'll try to give you a few general pointers.
- prebuff beforehand, protection from evil radius 10, improved haste, armour of faith ect you can also try buffing potions cast the ones with the longest duration first and end with the shortest duration.
- summon undead ?? (name) ?? provided you have a level 15 cleric equivelant: good expendable damage absorbers that last 8 hours remember to haste to get maximum efficiency. don't expect them to actually damage anything their purpose is to take hits. mages also have access to this spell at level 5 or 6 IIRC
- rush him with tanks and turn on GWW
- use rods of resurrection and use them as a ranged heal don't wait for somebody to die thats inefficient
- all your people need to have death ward and chaotic commands if you don't have enough slots chaotic commands takes priority; you can't afford to have you men running around confused
- breach, remove magic, and warding whip/ruby rays are extremely important once his spell protections are removed he will fall in short order to a few level 20 tanks
- you can also try nukeing the area to get rid of the lesser demons, chain contingency 3x Abu-Dazim's, dragon breath's and storm of vengence come to mind
If your mage is solo your in for a tough fight the key is to get as much help as possible. try Planetar cheese: chain contingency 3x project image on self
spam 10 or 20 planetars. that should get you through the fight remember to haste them during the fight and to keep removing protections
the standard demogorgon is easy; I've done the improved version without too much hassle rushing buffed tanks with GWW is the way to go

I think your best strategy is to be the highest level you possibly can before attempting to take on Demogorgon.
This is usually easy enough if you manage to do all of the quests in SOA, but if you're still having too much trouble with him, I suggest trying to advance the TOB storyline further to gain a few more levels.
As for actual strategies in the fight, all I can really suggest without replaying it is to take your strongest fighter (such as Kelborn, Minsc or Sarevok), and cast every single protection spell and drink every useful protective potion that you have, as well as enabling any special abilities, and having them occupy Demogorgon while the rest of your party tries their best to slay him.
Make sure you have spells such as Remove Parylasis, Greater Restoration and the like in case your fighter is adversely affected.
In addition, try to hit Demogorgon with spells to remove his magical protections, Spell Strike is the best example of this, a level Nine Mage spell. Lower Magic Resistance will work very well here too, after a few hits it should allow any magic users in your party to effectively damage him with thier offensive spells.
Any powerful summoned creatures could also come in handy if your fighter is taking too many hits, and to draw Demogorgon away from any of your other party members.
You could also try looking at the Strategy Guides for better help than I am able to provide. Good luck.
