Char. Missing!!

Okay so I finished in the naga temple area and was on my way to drop of the robes in the castle when my game crashed, a blue screen popped up for 2 secs and then my pc restarted. When I went to reload my game my save file was competely gone. So I went to the DL file and looked in my save file folder and the file was there but it is no longer a save file it says game03.V45 instead of game03.SAV, I tried renaming it to a save file but it didn't work when I went to reload and that's all I could think of to try. Fortunately every time I get done playing for a day I make a save copy of my char file and zip it, so I do have a back-up so it's not a total loss, but a full day of jumping around the naga temple is something I really dont want to do again. Has anyone else encountered this prob. and if so how do you fix it? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

The v45 instead of sav is when you use a save file from versions 1.0-1.3 with a later patch.

Any save earlier than 1.4 will not work with CE/1.5

Hmmm.. I didn't know that. Let me explain a bit more, and maybe it will spread some more light. I was orginally playing this character on my home PC that has the updated patches, and then I saved that file to a thumb drive and transfered it to my laptop so that my hubby could play one of his games on the pc, my laptop is strictly off limits to the net and only for gaming, so it doesn't have any of the patches in it. I played with that character for a few days on my laptop with no problems and could save and everything, and then amregedon happened and now I can't get the game to recognize that the file is there in the saved games file. I really only have a very minor understanding of computers and how all the gidet ma hoos work, so I'm open to suggestions.

AH HA !

Since your lap top version of the game is either 1.0 or 1.2 (doesn't seem as if you have the 1.5/CE version), the pc saves having been patched, will not work.

When you patched the pc game, did you save the patches? If so, why not put the patches on a zip thingy, and apply them to your lap top game?! then all you have to do is either again transfer pc saves, or change all those v45 extensions to sav

Very good idea, tried it, and no go. The game is still showing a blank load page, as if I dont have any files in my save file folder, which I do. When my laptop crashed could it have corrupted the file in some way that it will not play now??? And if so is there any way to fix the file??

Prior to the latest version, CE/1.5, patches were required. So if you have an earlier version than 1.5, uninstall the game on the laptop, reinstall it, then the only patch you need is the one titled "full 1.4" and it's for any version from 1.0 to 1.3. It's a hefty 139 mb. If you don't have that, use the regular pc to download it. Just scroll down the link's page to the one titled Full 1.4.

Once you have the game reinstalled and patched up, transfer your pc saves to the laptop. Oh, by the way, if the game on the pc is version 1.5, then there's no way those saves will work on the laptop. As long as both computers have the same version of game, the saves should work.

And one more note: Once you patch the game, it cannot be a higher version than what's on the pc, or the saves might not work. Just try it all.... something just has to work !

Thanks so much for all your help George K, my hubby made a suggestion this after noon that I should just use the editor to give myself the robes and go on my merry little way with the back up file that I have. I don't feel it's cheating too much beens I've technically already been through the temple and gotten said item , I checked and both the games are the same version, but I don't think I will be playing it on the laptop any more, I don't like the blue screens of death, it's not good for business.
