Elf race + crossbows?

Post by probe53 »

does the elf's bonus to bows apply to crossbows too?

it is said in the description that they recieve bonus when using long swords and bows...

only bows as in short and long bows or including crossbows?

This applies to longbows only.

so final status is:
elves recieve slight bonus to *long bows and *long swords...

no short swords, no short bows... no cross bows...

btw. in your opinion... how do you feel about crossbows anyway?

i did want to create a crossbow using character once... but... never really ended up creating something like that...
usually ended up using bows instead... though im not a fan of those.

Yes, that is the information I gathered by looking at GB's racial table.

Well... back when I played with party members, I always had Sarevok use the upgraded Firetooth Cross Bow, and he was very good with it. In BGII I don't really see that much of a difference between the best bow and the best crossbow and if I am correct, slings tend to do more damage anyway, due to a certain belt's large strength bonus.

I doubt they even implemented the elf bonus to bows and swords.

I don't really like using ranged attacks however when situation calls for it I use Gesen's short bow. Xbows tend to be slower but if you have GWW it does'nt make any diffrence

I have installed a variety of mods, including the Baldurdash Fixpack and a couple of tweak packs. In my game, an elf gets a +1 THAC0 bonus with a longsword and any kind of longbow, composite longbow, or short bow (but not any crossbow). Maybe the mods did it, or maybe the game was actually made that way. (I haven't tested an unmodded game.) However, I'm not sure if the damage bonus was implemented.
