Game dialogue files

Post by dragon wench »

Does anyone know where I might find all of the conversation files (in readable text form) in SoA/ToB?

I have looked in my BG2 folders, but I can't see anything... I'm pretty sure I saw something like this once while surfing around BG2 sites, but I can't seem to locate it again... :rolleyes:

Thanks for any info! :)

You could always use the Weidu modding tool to convert the dialogs into a readable format. By the time you are done you may end up with something that is the size of a novel considering how big the dialog.tlk file is.

Hmm.. I may look into that, ta very much! :)
How er... "user friendly" is the Weidu modding tool. I'm not exactly talented with fine, detail-oriented tech stuff... :o

Considering that I'm a noob to modding, the tool seems easy. It comes with a nice big tutorial also.

@Belladonna,
thank you very much! I'll definitely check it out then. I always wondered how some people managed to incorporate so much dialogue into various projects, I was pretty sure they weren't taking screen shot after screen shot :D

I use a resource viewer called Infinity Explorer whenever I want to read dialogues files. The thing that makes it so tricky is that dialogues come in the form of trees. When you have four or five dialogue options, you have to decide which branch of the tree you want to follow. So even if the Weidu modding tool lets you convert the dialogue file to a "readable" format, it appears that you will still need to do a lot of organizing and editing to get the full effect.

I just posted a couple of messages in the thread titled "Drizzt spoiler" which illustrate the difficulty of transcribing dialogue files. If someone on the interwebnet says he or she has the "definitive" dialogue transcript, I'd have to see it before I'd believe it.
