Merchant League (spoiler)
Merchant League (spoiler)
I didn't see this anywhere in the archives so pardon me if it has been discussed before. I am in the Merchant League building helping Aldeth Sashenstar with his doppleganger woes. I have killed all of the dopplegangers in the building (all floors) but his superior officer tells me that there is more in the building and I need to kill them all to be safe. Is this a bug or am I missing something? All I have installed is easy TuTu.
Thanks.
Thanks.

If you are sure that you have checked every nook of every floor of the entire building, then you might want to visit the basement. The stairs are on the right-side of the 1st floor.

My bad, as I was thinking of the Iron Throne Tower. Sorry about that.
Have you tried talking to Aldeth again?

Either I have missed a sub-quest or you have made a slight mistake. Are you talking about the seven suns? If so there are some steps down at ground level at the left hand side. Go down there and kill the doppelganger and talk to the owner. If you are actually in the Merchant League Building itself. could you tell me how you got sent there as I have obviously missed something somewhere.Pellinore wrote:I didn't see this anywhere in the archives so pardon me if it has been discussed before. Spoilers
Remember in Cloakwood the dude who you save from or help the druids kill? Well, if you help him against the druids he later gets you to investigate the Merchant League (same area as the Seven Suns) which has the same problem as the Seven Suns....D'gangers! Well, I killed them all but he and his commanging officer are saying I didn't. They keep saying there are more and we won't be safe until I kill them all...

It has always beens my understanding that they are Shadow Druids but I have been known to be wrong before.Faerun wrote:I don't think the guys in question are shadow druids. Just regular druids.
The results of a "Know Alignment" spell on the druids would be interesting.

Aldeth resisted magic when using "Know Alignment". The druids were neutral.DaemonJ wrote:It has always beens my understanding that they are Shadow Druids but I have been known to be wrong before.![]()

The question now is what alignment are shadow druids? I've never checked, just killed them. I'll check this time through if nobody gives a definitive answer first. Has anyone been able to find out Aldeth's alignment. I didn't have a mage, so couldn't use magic to raise the chances of determining it.
Since Shadow Druids are killing other druids, they should be of an evil alignment but I thought that all druids had to be Neutral.

I have checked the shadow druids and they are indeed neutral. I suppose that is logical. In real life good people get into conflict with each other, neutral people get into comflict with each other, and evil people get into conflict with each other.DaemonJ wrote:Since Shadow Druids are killing other druids, they should be of an evil alignment but I thought that all druids had to be Neutral.

Getting back to the main thread. I am doing this quest for the first time and am getting exactly the same problem. No mods or anything. Any ideas anyone?Pellinore wrote:man, I have combed that 1st floor more than a dozen times and have found no basement.... Is there some reason this may not be showing up?
Just been to Dudleyville and found that I was meant to speak to Irlentree first before going upstairs. I didn't. Is that what is causing the problem and if so, does anyone know how to rectify the situation
I never spoke with Irlentree, just Aldeth and his guard friend.
Since I'm assuming you have no previous save I would say go back up to the very top floor and walk to the back of the room, just to make sure. Often one or two dopplegangers will flee combat and hide back there.
If you find you are still having a problem, check for stragglers that may have used stairs to escape (or have gone outside).

I have discovered that you need to talk to Irlentree more than once. The first time to get sent up to the top floor ostensibly for a banquet, but actually for an ambush. The second time he and his cohorts on the floor where he is turn into doppelgangers. I had a saved game so I'm O.K. You definitely need to speak to Irlentree!Aqua-chan wrote:I never spoke with Irlentree, just Aldeth and his guard friend.

I have discovered that there are basically two ways of doing this quest. One takes the game for all it has to offer. The second is better from a role playing point of view.
SPOILERS
To get all the experience and spoil that you can, help Aldeth. As he is departing pickpocket him as often as you can. He will not turn hostile. Use a speed modifier if you can. In the merchant league building. Talk to Irlentree before going to the third floor. You also need hard evidence for the captain of the guard. Other characters will tell you where to find it. After being sent to the third floor, talk to Irlentree again. Kill the rest of the Doppelgangers. Talk to the captain of the guard and then Aldreth. Even if you already pickpocketed the good sword. He will give you another one. Pickpocket him again. You will get a potion of heroism and some other stuff which are not there if you kill him. You can then kill him with no loss of reputation. He will have over 1000gp on him. The Captain of the guard may turn hostile. You can kill him as well with no loss of reputation. If you kill Aldeth, his brother will attack you in the centre of town and you can get a good mace and crossbow.
If you have helped Aldeth with the Doppelgangers. It seems inconsistant to attack him. So from a roleplaying point of view, I would not attack him. I only did it out of curiosity.
Interesting. I wonder if maybe it's because of either the version of the game one has installed or if TotSC has anything to do with it, but I've never had a problem with this section of the game regardless of talking to the other two "partners" or not.
