Classes & ToB
Classes & ToB
Hello,
I have just started ToB last night (finishing SoA and carrying over to the start of ToB). So I have my main party (pc is a monk) and I was also interested in trying a Kensai/mage as my monk is pretty powerful (soloed every single boss in the game, including twisted rune and all 3 dragons). So to say the least, I doubt ToB would be much of a challenge with my monk.
With all that said, I was reading the ToB manual and it says you can start ToB as a new game, create a character and it'll be given something like 2.7 million xp, some magical items, and be let free.
So what I was wondering is:
1) Do you get any sort of party if you choose this route?
2) What sort of "power magical items" do you get? This is not really a problem as I can just load rings of gaxx, etc. onto my character.
3) Is it possible to create a kensai/mage this way? Ie. Get the xp points, then level the kensai to 9 or more, and then dual to the mage.
3b) I heard that a kensai/mage in soa should be dualed at level 9. But since I would be starting in ToB, would it be beneficial to start the dual at a later level, like 15 or 16?
Thanks

I guess I shouldn't expect everyone who posts to actually post something useful - that would be too perfect now wouldn't it?
In fact, anyone who goes out of their way to ask such an unneeded question is either a troll or an ignoranus.
None the less, I am a power gamer, power is fun. Monk is fun, thus what they say about Kensai/Mage must be equally fun.
I tried out a kensai on ToB (new char). And basically answered my questions. No you cannot dual from starting in ToB. The "powerful" magical items suck. And you don't start with a party. I was thinking of trying to solo ToB, but I have never played ToB, so I am unsure if this is wise.
So, a couple more questions if people care to answer with useful intelligence:
1) Having an evil party in ToB - are you screwed like you were in SoA? Or is it a little more balanced?
2) Where do you get your party if you start a new ToB game?
3) Can I use shadow keeper to edit a new tob save and adjust my kensai to be a 13k/whatever level mage?
Thanks,
SexyElf

Wanna hurl insults? Why choose a name like "Sexy Elf"? Are you really that nasty that you need the attention of geeky computer gamers to respond to your threads because of some weak fantasy that some "sexy chick" is actually talking to them.
Or were you ignored by your parents as a small child, and any attention you get is better than the little or no attention you grew up recieving?

Wow, you were just waiting for me (or anyone that responds to your ridiculous post) so you can debate on a message board of a game that is mildly popular only to fan boys like yourself which need to protest their intelligence by flaming innocent players, like myself, who only are seeking an answer to a question they cannot find.
But if it is in your curiousity to try and troll me into a flame war with yourself, perhaps to give your insecure ego a boost because you think it is justily to defend yourself over "an insult" that you provoked.
I care not for flaming, and as a certified troll, I can gaurantee that you cannot resist to reply to me. So post some more of your vast amount of lame insults, and until someone with some knowledge of the game can give me some useful information, you can fill this thread with your immature ramblings.

Well, I'm a little puzzled by your post, too.
By your comments, I'm assuming that you are using Shadowkeeper to shape your character and inventory to enable a good powergame. To say the least, I doubt ToB would be much of a challenge for Boo to solo, either.
Are you sure about not being able to pick a party? Do you not get the pocket plane if you start a new game in ToB? No Challenges? No Cespenar!!! Interesting.
I didn't find Klorox's original reply to you all deserving of your backhand, Edwin. Not everyone uses the same tactics. Your subsequent statement:
"Monk is fun, thus what they say about Kensai/Mage must be equally fun."
is equally puzzling to me. Based on what? Who are 'they'?
Regarding evil parties - clearly the game is weighted towards a "good" resolution. I doubt it was ever meant to offer equal opportunities for evil parties.

In my opinion if Klorox takes time to actually write something with the intention to help you you shouldn't bash him, more opinions can only help you.
now as to your question, if your abandoning the monk because he is too powerfull the kensai mage is essentially a mage for all intents and purposes except he has a much better thaco, grandmastery and depending on when you dual a 1 to 1.5 extra attacks per round. This means that should you choose to you can set up a contingency and go into melee (edit: one of the most munchkin overpowered classes of the game)
as for your comments on ToB being too easy I can tell you it's not for a solo monk, you just can't compare SoA to ToB. SoA is meant for chars in the 2-3 million range with no HLA's, ToB on the otherhand is meant for strong level 40 chars. In anycase if your finding it too easy I would install ascenscion; it's a semi-official mod that makes all boss fights alot harder. you can solo it with a sorceror or do it with a team either way the difficulty is tripled and some fights are simply hard and will force you to use every trick in the game.

Thank you for those who took the time to provide me with some useful information.
I don't have a lot of time to play ToB now with university starting up again, and that is partly why I want a better then average character. I really like my monk, but I wanted to play a kensai mage from the beginning as well and could only choose one of the two classes.
I don't know what the pocket plane is, I haven't played anything of ToB yet, lol. I am only at the very beginning, right after the intro movie of chapter 8.
So I was hoping that a kensai mage could match wits with my monk, but have those extra spells, such that I wouldn't have to rely on my party as much for magic. After playing a monk for the past few weeks, something new was my plan.
Thanks again for those who provided insight.
As for my comments to Klorox, Shine, I think it is rather funny how you pick out my insults to Klorox which are mild in comparison to his personal attacks. And Edwin is a pretty cool character, lol, more power!

SexyElf, maybe I didn't make myself clear enough, above. These personal attacks and references to them that you started, stop now. From everybody, including you.As for my comments to Klorox, Shine, I think it is rather funny how you pick out my insults to Klorox which are mild in comparison to his personal attacks.

I have toyed with ultra powerful characters before and aside from one or two fun encounters of owning the adversaries I find powergaming utterly boring. what is the point in playing the game if there isn't a challenge? I have already planned my next run-through with a character who has really lame stats...sort of like an "average guy". The fun is in overcoming the challenges.

Yeah, it's no fun at all.
As some may know, I started a "No Reloads" game with a Wild Mage a while back, but because the class is such a powerhouse I needed to take a HUGE break from the game... it got boring. >.>
I should be continuing it Next week.
