imported items?

Post by elle »

Hi
Under the list of items in BG2 SoA, the items from BG1 is also listed, ex. Defender +5. This makes me wonder, is it possible to find or keep any of the items you had when you import a character from BG1?

From what I read, no. All the stuff you previously had is lost, with exception of the pantaloons, if you had them. They will be found behind the picture in chateau Irenicus. Others are said to disappear. You even get the dialogue "That's not our gear. I think they sold our things" or similar. But, I could be wrong.

There is a way apparently...
From what I gather it has something to do with immediately hitting the space bar once the game starts rolling in Chateau Irenicus. I've never done it myself, though, so can't give more details.

It can be done but is very cheesy. After all, you are a prisoner in a bird cage so you definitely won't have any equipment. Not to mention, it ruins the feel of the game and the "urge" to obtain better equipment as soon as possible with what limited funds that you have.

The trick that DW posted is well known and works, but I'd suggest against it as you can become very powerful and well equipped pretty quickly. You will most likely end up discarding almost all of the items you brought over from BGI by the time you reach the midpoint of the game, even earlier I'd say.

One armour and a miscellaneous item carry over too.

I think i've done the pause trick once but haven't been able to reproduce it. To make up for it, i pumped the NPCs' XP to the level it was at the end of BG and gave Jaheira +3 Wisdom since i gave her that in BG. ;)

Turns out I was wrong after all... :)

Still, everybody is right, there is enough powerfull stuff in BG2 as it is. Altough, if You want to, You are now able to. Have fun!

SPOILERS Baldurans helmet is one object that is carried through for certain. If you import four characters each carrying the helmet, you will find four helmets. This without using the exploit. I believe that the same applies to other objects. If you do use the exploit, then the nature of some items changes.
Durlag's armour for instance can be used along with a ring of protection.
The good long sword in Durlag's Tower changes dramatically for good or ill.
Other posters are right in saying that most equipment carried over rapidly becomes obsolete and is not really needed. It does however enable you to do Irenecus's dungeon more quickly, the bit that I find a bit tedious. In my opinion the only items that have lasting value are Balduran's Helmet, Balduran's Cloak, and the boots of speed.

While searching for something else, I came across this. It is a mod that adds a number of BG1 items to the game. There are two components, a cheesy one that just scatters the items around Chateau Irenicus, and a more challenging option that places them with Mencar Pebblecrusher and his gang.

The Dungeon Be Gone mod makes Irenicus' dungeon much more bearable.
