doing without Keldorn

Post by windchime »

Hi all, (i decided to start a new thread)
i am thinking, i played Keldorn before (during the first game i didn't, who knew about Carsomyr?) so i played him the second time.
Now, i am going to try Saerileth and i reallywant to see how she's like WITHOUT shadowkeeping her to inquisitor...(thus leaving her to Cavalier)
so someone will wield Carsomyr anyway...
BUT how am i going to do without the twice-levelled Dispel Magic and True Sight? Those are awesome and Keldorn really changes the game a lot.
My team will be:

Ranger/Cleric
Saerileth
Kelsey
Haer'Dalis
Nalia (shadowkeeped to make her a better thief)

[lot of micro management is it?]
Still my question is: will i miss Keldorn and when? and how to counteract his loss? i accept strategy suggestions considering Keldy won't be around...
such as how to distribute spells and roles...

Shadowkeep yourself to be a Ranger/Priest of Helm - they get True Sight as well. Or get Nalia to have 100% Detect Illusions, that basically does the same thing. Then there is Glitterdust, et cetera.

You still have 3 people who can cast Dispel Magic + Carsomyr, it just takes more time.

I once thought as you did, that Keldorns dispell magic and true sight were essential, and yet it's quite easy to get by without them.

True sight can be handled by any mage, level 6 doesn't have that much to offer anyway you can easly spare 1 or 2 slots for true sight.

As for dispell remember, it's a double edged sword it removes your protections as well. Most enemy protections can easly be removed by breach or wharding whip, the latter is especially usefull against liches because it works during their timestop so when they come out of it their as good as dead. Breach is good for removing stoneskins and protection from magic weapons. between the 2 you shouldn't have any problems.

Hmmm... Maybe the developers took liberties for the sake of the story or something (as with Minsc), but
Spoiler
Anomen can become Lawful Good, and I'm pretty sure he is a Priest of Helm.
(very minor spoiler, highlight to read)

Why not try experimenting by creating a dummy character? :)

Hmm, again one of the mods i installed makes me look bad. Apparently, i installed a mod that allows Helmite Priests to be any Lawful alignment, or True Neutral. My BGTuTu still has the Neutral thing. :o

anomen (spoiler=highlight)

in an unmodded game, anomen still is a cleric,
SPOILER

despite his continous references to Helm. he can change alignment during the game because he is not a priest of Helm...

END OF SPOILER
i'll see if i find that mod to make him a good aligned priest of helm. anyone knows which one?

Playing without Keldorn really isn't a problem, I've never had any problems getting through the game and I've never had him for very long. The only protagonist that picked him up allowed him to leave to be with his famillly. Well being a good character what else could one do? To force him to stay with you would be a chaotic neutral act at best.

Your magic users will have no problem dispelling invisibility, if you use one of the better script mods they'll dispel invisibility before you know it's even being used. As for Dispel Magic, as has been pointed out it's a two edged sword, better to use breach etc., which again with a decent script your characters will.

interesting

i was playing a neutral fighter last time so that is what i did, kept Keldorn with me. but i understand, i 'll let him go home...this time.
He was very happy to stay though, especially when reputation gets high.
i also decided to dump Haer'Dalis for Keto,
'cause:
i know him.(he is SUPER)
but again i am more into roleplaying so it will be a challenge to have her instead.
this is my team now (in my mind):

Ranger/Cleric
Kelsey
Keto
Saerileth
a thief, can be anyone...
