Haven't played in years, looking for party advice

Post by wbclark »

I played through the game YEARS ago and loved it but haven't touched it since then. I'm going to give it another go, this time with a Kensai!

Ultimately, I would like to have myself, Imoen, Haer Dalis', Minsc, and Jaheira. Here's the catch, though: I'm using a mod which makes Minsc a Berserker and Jaheira a Cleric/Ranger.

In ToB, I'll probably add Seravak to the mix (I loved his dialogue) but until then, who would be a good final member?

Ideally, they would have good banter AND utility.

Any suggestions?

Thanks! :-D

Personaly I would stick to 5 person party - it gets crovded when you have all 6 slots filled. And with the party you have chosen it seems pretty balanced to me :)

Ditto.

I really love the idea of going through SoA with a "set" 5 person crew. Have the 6th slot be a revolving door so that you can do the other NPC's personal quests.

Not only will you have more fun this way (you get to see a whole lot more of the game), but you will also get a whole lot more XP!

Don't worry about Sarevok in ToB either, he'll be a tiny bit behind in XP, but you'll never notice.

Just remember: most of the NPCs have a personal little quest, but each needs a certain circumstance for it to happen. If you'd like to know what these are, we can let you know, but I don't want to spoil you without your permission.

Based on the party you've already selected, I would suggest Aerie to complete your group, for the following reasons:

Aerie has ALOT of banter when Haer'Dalis is also in the party, especially if you romance her.

Aerie's arcane spells will nicely compliment Imoen's wizard spells.

Aerie's cleric spells will nicely compliment Jaheira's druid spells.

Aerie's access to both arcane & divine spells gives her the maximum versatility with Contingency spells.

In fact, her widest-range of spell options allows using her in whatever way you want. If you want her to dispel, disable, buff, de-buff, tank, strike from a distance, heal... Aerie the Magical Dynamo can do it all.

I also second Klorox's idea, about having the 6th slot be a revolving door so that you can do the other NPC's personal quests. But I would rotate Minsc instead. A ranger or berserker that's a level behind (if that!) because he sat out a few quests is small potatoes, imo. See more of the game!
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...
