Valygar's spells and backstabing
Valygar's spells and backstabing
The manual says that stalkers have access to three mage spells at level 12 (haste, lightning bolt and another one). He was level 12 when i got him but he can't do any mage spell (nor priest spell yet). Also the manual says he can backstab x2 at level 12 but it's really x3. So, what's going on?

Have you checked in his Priest spell book? That is where the spells should be located...
He doesn't have a Mage spellbook.

The three Wizard spells in question are Haste, Minor Spell Deflection, and Protection from Normal Missiles. They are found in the Stalker's Priest spell book.
Valygar does not have any spells in his spell book because the game designers screwed up. Fortunately, the game automatically corrects itself when your character levels up. For example, if his THAC0 is wrong, it is corrected. Same with saving throws, memorized spell slots, and spells. Other things like hit points, proficiency points, stealth points, and other things like that are not corrected.
Valygar will get all of his spells the next time he levels up. Better late than never, I suppose.
