If I pick up Nalia...
...and head to spellhold before I do her quest. Do you think she'll complain and/or leave?

she probably won't leave you if you can get enough gold to pay Gaelan, then rush through chapter 3 within approx. 1 week. After 1 week she returns to the keep and waits for you. However if you manage to get to Brynnlaw she won't leave, but expect her to leave you as soon as you enter chapter 6 and get out of the underdark.
Another way to circumvent this altogether (tested by me) is to just take her to the keep ground and leave. As soon as you get the dialog where she tells you about the trolls you can skip the keep altogether. The same thing goes for Korgan's tomb, as soon as he starts that "this is the way I just knows it" dialog in front of that spider cavern he will not get pissed of no matter how much time you take. All of this is usefull to me because early on I can't finish both the keep and the tombs fast enough to satisfy both, espescially when pressing business like Renfeld or Jaheira's curse pop up
