IS there an easy way to kill Umbra?? (spoilers)
First time I played thru the game, I went after Umbra when I was at level 10 and got lucky. I couldn't HOPE to stand up to her in a straight up fight, but when I ran away after doing a sneak attack she turned back for her lair and I caught her at the end of a long passageway with an arrow right at the edge of my range. She couldn't seem me, but started pacing back and forth at the end of the passage, and I just kept peppering her with arrows until, 75 arrows later, I was able to finish her off with a Lesser Staff of Lightning.
So here I am, a level 10 Khajit, and I REALLY want the Umbra sword because I use lots of enchanted weapons and am about 45 points away from being skilled enough in Conujuration (? I think) to Soultrap. I have the Claymore of Pain and an enchanted Dwemer longsword, plus a Staff of Fire (40 points damage per Hit) and all I have done so far is make her mad. I have got her walking away down the same passage I caught her in before, but she won't start pacing at the end for me to use her for a pincushion again. IS THERE an easier way to take this gal down, or should I abandon my fantasies of owning Umbra for now?

Any doctrine that will not bear investigation is an unworthy tenant of the mind of an honest man.
if your a khajit you have good acrobatics right?
if you can't roll and dive yet then just find something high to jump up on. shoot down at her untill she's dead.

Why am I fighting to live, if I'm just living to fight? Why am I trying to see, when there aint nothing in sight? Why am I trying to give, when no one gives me a try? Why am I dying to live, if I'm just living to die?

Tried that. There is one broken off column that might do, but it's pretty tall and she was already chasing me. If I could land on it and stay put, I MIGHT have a chance. That gal is one tough cookie, though!!!!:speech:

well i went in there and choped her pretty head off with ease but i did it at a higher lvl so if i were you i would try to sneak past her onto the broken pilliar and use that claymore to do long distince but effective attack while she just try to attack you but cant reach you
We're all going to die some day, I intend to deserve it.

That did it! (Spoiler)
Kind of. I got up to level 13, with enough agility, jumped onto the column, and put a bunch of arrows into her . . . 11 glass, 1 Dwarven and 8 Elven to be precise (that I was able to recover, there may have been more!). And that's with a +15 damage Frost Bow! She is one tough kill at the lower levels. But now I've got Umbra, AND her cool Ebony armor!

Easy way to kill Umbra (worked for me)
I did it at level 29, with journeyman skill in sneak and marksman. I used a daedridc bow, which i enchanted to do 20 pints of shock damage, and glass arrows. i entered the room in sneak mode and moved across that balcony above until i spotted her. fired the first arrow in sneak mode, 3x damage. she didn't see me and she ran to a corner of the room, behind her, hiding behind a column. i moved another few steps across the balcony, in sneak mode of course, until she was in my sight. i fired another arrow in sneak mode and again she didn't saw me. 7 arrows later she was dead and not even knew what hit her. from what i understood, in the quest there should have been some talking to her, but who needs it? as soon as i took everything from her body the quest updated telling me to bring the sword back to clavicus. yeah, right!

the most absolutely easiest way to do it is to go to rendiers staffs(spelling) and buy the staff apethiosis(spelling) it has fire, shock, and frost damage kills her in like 2 hits, high or loww level

OMG! You think you are something, huh, I killed her at lvl 4(nord warrior).
Want to know how? Well in the main quest "Path of Dawn" when the guy teleport to some place, you have to kill every1 to get to book that you have to give to Martin, 1 of th Dawnguys (a female in this case) got a staff that has 42 uses or something like that with a damage health spell, i used all the charges on Umbra, and 1 Petty Soulgem to recharge it, only 1 use left after all the shots have hitted and she's dead, so it's pretty easy to kill her.
(I was behind the brazier(spelling?) when i shot at her)

In case you missed it, no one here is interested in bragging except you. The poster who started the thread wanted to find an easier way. The replies have focused on suggestions that have worked for others. Please watch the attitude.Danih wrote:OMG! You think you are something, huh, I killed her at lvl 4(nord warrior).
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
There is a way to kill targets with melee as long as they are thin (will explain) and you have enough speed. All you do is wait for them to hit or make them by lowering your shield for a second then block the blow. When they recoil (you dont need knockback with the shield, normal recoil will work) you have a second to run around them a bit. It takes a bit of practice but what you want to do is get about 90-180 degrees right or left of their front (not right behind because you don't know which way they will turn) , and when they start turning face them and pull right or left away from their front. If you have enough speed you can rotate without them ever facing you and smack them (they can't block you because a shield only works in the game when you are facing your opponent).
This works best in open, lighted areas so you can time your spinning, and against humanoid targets. This is mostly for if you are unprepared for the fight, and dont wanna leave or just want to be invincible 1 on 1 (before reflect). Yes, it is cheap, but so is using a column.

Instant Umbra
You can have the sword day one if you like. Make sure you have some healing potions or some stronger healing spells and sorcery potions. The Welkyd stones from her dungeon work well too. Go piss her off and run. An arrow from the balcony is safest. Run all the way back to the Imperial City and through the gates. You may have to keep going to the center of town where the royal guards are tougher. You have to be careful not to out run her at first. If the music goes mellow you will have to turn around and re-irk her. Once she's on your but outside she won't give up and she'll be nipping at your heels the whole way. Worse than nipping actually.
Once you are in the city and a guard sees her strike you they jump her and gain her attention. Then you can stand back and watch the melee. It is pretty hilarious. I think I did it around level seven and it went off smooth as silk, first try. My wife asked me to do it for her though at level three and we ran in to all kinds of hitches. I think they were bad luck and not level related though. Just be sure to save along the way when things are going well so you don't have to completely start over. You can just keep picking up where you left off until you make it.
As an added bonus you get to loot all the guards bodies she will kill. Nice shot in the arm money wise in the early going. Took me several trips to gather it all up. She killed six guards in my attempt, four during my wife's.
Anyone reading this who it helps or amuses please check out my post regarding second tier athletics training and let me know if you can help.
Hope this helps and thanks for any help I get in advance.

Umbra ftw
I didnt have that much of a problem with her, I bash in with mace and shield and frequently cast paralyze spells on her and then hit her with my daedric mace until she rises, then I do the same thing again. Paralyze spells costs a lot of mana though so you better be prepared for that.
Another tactic I took her down with was when I was some sort of fighting rogue I sneak up on her, deliver a thrust with the dagger, quickly change to a bigger weapon with shield and just block her out. Her sword is powerful, indeed, but if your fast enough with your weapon you might just be the better ^^
