Altars

Post by Iceman1963 »

Has everyone discovered by now that they can stand on the altar of diamond light in the Drake breeding grounds and nothing can touch you? Except the Drakes of course with thier fire. And same goes with all the Altars of that kind they turn out to be safe havens to attack from with ranged weapons or area effect spells if you find yourself severely out numbered. :D

Yep, the altars are handy that way. Since spiders and scorpions spawn more frequently in the breeding grounds than the dragons do, that altar is a great spot to hang out in. I also had a character doing the Hunter quest and the Brimgulden never touched him at all. I stayed inside the Rune Forge the entire time, until I had him go out and finish the beast off with a melee weapon.

My tactics for a new character is to also find a high spot to jump up on and ping away at creatures with a ranged weapon. There are some boulders in the starting forest that do nicely, along with those shacks that the goblins have further in the forest. I stand on the porch of the one that doesn't have the grass growing in the front and ping. No sense having my poor little elf girl get swarmed by spiders or wolves if she doesn't have to be. :D

I hate Spiders. snakes, and bees.. It seems this game learns what hurts you the most and send it after you in greater numbers until it finally kills you off. I can't seem to carry enough cure poison potions and the celestial poison cures. And it never fails that after I get poisoned there's always a pack of wolves around to bite me in the ass and finish the job the creature that poisoned me started. So I make use of whatever I can find to stay out of the reach of everything except the ones that fly or shoot. What upsets me is they removed the large rocks from moon beast island that you could stand on and you were safe to pick them off with a goob bow.

I know what you mean. The bees are the most useless things I can imagine, at least spiders and snakes drop a katal. If you're not a nether magic user, you can at least sell those to make a little extra cash. The bees and their aquatic equivalents of fish hurt lots and drop nothing. Boo!

Here is one solution to the moonbeasts in my screenshot:

Another thing I do is stay in the water right by the shore, facing the island. I can then hit them with ranged weapon, or run up and melee with them, jumping back in the water after taking enough damage. It isn't as good as those altars, but it works pretty well.

Great Idea

Just how in the hell did you get up there? I've tried backflipping up the sides of it but never seem to reach the top.:speech:

I climb to the top of the little spire to the right there in then jump over. It sometimes takes a few tries, but it so worth it to stay out of the mean kitties way. :)

I was able to backflip right up on the arch once, but was never able to do it again. I think you have to be in just the right place to do it. The character also got 2 learning bonuses for athletics, so I was easily able to get her skill level up to 8 which does help with jumping a bit.
