Saving and Walk the abyss?

Hi,
I just got my hands on this old but excellent game but I have run in to some problems.

1. Why doesn't Walk The Abyss work? Christof does the spell animation and his blood pool drains but no portal appears at all.

2. I have installed the patch and the "Save" button appears in the menu, but nothing happens when I click on it what could be wrong?

Walk the Abyss has always worked fine in my games. Coupled with the problem with saving, have you tried reinstalling the game as it sounds like there is something wrong with the installation.

I have reinstalled and still neither of them work, ah well, hopefully I can manage the game without them.

Well, this isn't supposed to happen, and you're going to be annoyed A LOT without the help of "walk the abbys", i can tell you that much. Just for safekeeping...have you tried playing without the patch? I found that it wasn't really necessary because there are no major flaws in the game, the only thing it does is being able to save whenever you want, and that's not something crucial as far as i'm concerned.
