I've done everything there is to do in the first two levels of the Asylum, I have Dace's hand and I have the Kobolds stone, but I cant get the head to open up. I run up and try to talk to it and my character just stands there, I've tried talking to him with all of my characters, with different combinations of items in their inventory (hand/kobold stone, not even sure if kobold stone is needed at all for this part either), I've tried putting the items (together and seperate) on the nearby altar and talking to it, I've tried dropping both items just to get a response out of it, and nothing has worked, I simply cant get the statue to talk to me. Do I need to do something with the hand? With the crystal? All the walkthroughs and forum threads I have read indicate that you simply need the hand to be in your inventory and the head should open. I never went and killed the pit field that comes out of the portal on the top of the map, but from everything I have read this is entirely optional.
PLEASE HELP! thx.
Edit: Ive read in several other posts about similar situations that you can use built-in cheats or a program called shadowkeeper to get around these kind of obstacles most of the time, but I would really prefer to use those as a last resort, so if anyone can suggest a way around this without cheating that would be helpful, but if thats not possible then please explain what I need to do with the cheats in detail as I have no idea what they are capable of and dont want to experiment any more than I have to.

This sounds like a bug. I Don't really remember but maybe you get the hand before staking the vampire ?? if so maybe you took his hand but forgot to stake him ??
I doubt this is the case. Even without having either item the head should still talk to you. Your best bet is to install the latest patch, and the Baldurdash fixpack. The latter is only semi-official but it's in your best interest to get it as it fixes countless bugs.
Edit if not, you can use the console to simply teleport yourself to the next area and add 30k exp/char since that is the quest reward. Another option is to go back to an older save (before arriving in that level) and trying it again with patch and fixpack. Though after installing them it should work on your current save.

You get the hand after staking the vampire so that is not the problem.
I have the latest patch and the Baldurash fix as well, and a couple minor mods from the ease of use package.
I dont play with multiple save spots, only the auto save and quick save, I will try to load up the auto save (dont know why I didnt do this before), as it should still be right before I go back to the starting dungeon level, when I get back from work. However, in the case that doesnt solve the problem, detailed instructions on how to teleport past the head and get the exp would be appreciated, or a link to where I can find the information. I have no idea how to set up or use any kind of cheats/editors for this game.
Edit: I just realized that I may have caused the bug myself. The first time I went back to the starting level (right after fighting the umber hulks) I got my ass handed to me because I hadnt bothered to heal, expecting no monsters to be around. Unfortunately 2 vampires were waiting for me and quickly disposed of both my mages. Not feeling like ressurecting them and picking up all their items again, I reverted back to the auto save. If you recall, when too much time passes in this dungeon, the screen fades out and Bodhi appears with some minions and taunts then attacks you. I didnt want to deal with them again so I slept several times rapidly to avoid them appearing and then ran up the stairs before the screen ever faded out, effectively avoiding the encounter, but possibly causing a bug because the game is still trying to have Bodhi open a dialogue with my character, thus stopping me from initiating any other dialogues. I will experiment with this after work.

You mentioned 'The hand of Dace' and the Kobold stone, there are three other 'keys' in that level, the Ruby, Opal and Sapphire stones, I can't remember if they are relevant to your problem, if you have them, then obviously they aren't.
One 'fix' is to edit your Baldur.ini file and insert the line - Debug Mode=1 - (without -) in the [Program Options] section. Then when in the game if you press Ctrl and J you will be teleported to the spot your cursor's over. It is possible to get behind the statue doing this. I know because I've had to use it when hitting a bug and not being able to get the hand of Dace.

[QUOTE=Darth Gavinius;1096098]Distrbution of games, is becoming a little like Democracy (all about money and control) - in the end choice is an illusion and you have to choose your lesser evil.

If you have the hand and crystal, it should open. So, the save point sounds like the way to go.
Clicking on the statue gives you a reward and allows you to walk through it. After returning to this game after a year or 2 of not playing it, I had forgotten that you have to walk through it (it appeared solid on my monitor) and climb stairs at the end of the screen.
