Bringing up the console on a Mac (again)

Post by btyo462 »

hi all. anyone know how to bring up the console on a mac? i have the proper lines added to the .ini file and ive tried every combination of ctrl, space, alt, command (apple), and even tab. none work. i did a search for this topic and it's been addressed here a few times, but not for a few years. it also seems that people are finding out how to get it working, and post that, but don't post HOW to do it, just that they did it.

found out why it wasn't working. turns out the .ini line that needs to be added is

Debug Mode=1 Cheats=1

not just

Debug Mode=1, which is what all the other FAQs say is all you need.

How Do I Do It?!?!?!

Oh thank god I found this thread. I too have a Mac and I am in desperate need of getting the CLUAConsole up because I dont have any Illithium. :(

But when I go into the baldur.ini file and add "Debug Mode=1 Cheats=1" and then save it, the icon of the file becomes just a blank document. Then when I start up Baldurs Gate 2 the blank icon becomes a document filled with text, and if I open it I discover that my text has been replaced by "Debug Mode=1 Cheats=1]". And I can't get the console open! :(

I have tried every combination, but it just doesn't work. It seems that you got it to work? Can you tell me exactly how you did it?

For example what program did you use to alter the .ini file? Please I need help! :(

hey there. use textedit to edit ini files. its good to just set that as the default app for them (you can do that by going to "get info", then changing the "open with" option, then click "change all"). as for the file itself, i remember that ] kept showing up in mine for some reason. i eventually got it to work. make sure your text reads like this:

[Program Options]
Debug Mode=1 Cheats=1
Install Type=3
BitsPerPixel=16
Font Name=
Double Byte Character Support=0
Drop Capitals=1
...and so on.....

it seems that macs are cranky about this file, even when it is typed in correctly, so if you cant get it working still after this, email me or message me and ill just email you my .ini file. good luck.

Ok I'll try that but it says

[Program Options]
Debug Mode=1 Cheats=1
Install Type=1
BitsPerPixel=32
Font Name=
Double Byte Character Support=0
Drop Capitals=1

Should I change the Install Type to 3 and the BitsPerPixel to 16?

Anyway I'll try it later I don't have time now.

the installation type simply refers to my full install (type 3) compared to your easy install (type 1). also, the bitsperpixel is merely a graphics option that you have set. i dont think either of these items should affect the outcome of this issue.

Nope it doesn't work. I open the document using TextEdit and then I write what needs to be written. Then I save it and the icon of the text file turns into just a blank document.

Then I go into Baldurs Gate and the second I do anything, press a key, move a little, open the inventory, the icon changes into a document filled with text.

When I open it it looks like this

[Program Options]
Debug Mode=1 Cheats=1]
Install Type=1
BitsPerPixel=32
Font Name=
Double Byte Character Support=0

If I change it again and then goes into Baldurs Gate the same thing just happens. I tried to press ctrl-space, alt-space, cmd-space, shift-space, tab-space, but nothing works.

Help please!

My suspicion is that you are not putting in the file extention when you save.
By the way, I hope you made a copy of your ini file elsewhere before messing about with it.

Great, although I don't know if that will work either. But lets give it a shot. You can email it to me on eta_beeta@hotmail.com.

Hi guys, just thought I'd share how I got this to work on my mac, as I was suffering the same problem with the ] sign:

If using TextEdit, the trick is in where you position the cursor when you press return to make a new blank line for the "Debug Mode=1 Cheats=1" code. The cursor needs to be at the begining of the second line when you press return, then insert code and you're away!

I assume this is because TextEdit isn't showing all the code, perhaps an html editor would be better if you are still having problems.

Good luck! S

A thanks alot Samuel that did it!

And to the guy who mailed it to me, I changed the stuff you said and then started Baldurs Gate. What happened was that a blue window popped up and my CD ejected. Odd. Then I had to force quit Baldurs Gate.

Anyway it worked if I did like Samuel said. Thanks everyone for helping me with this.
