Arch Mage Help (possible spoiler)

I've tried searching the forum but I haven't found anything on this topic. If there is a thread about it already, please give me a link. Anyway, so I am the Arch Mage of the Mages Guild and now I want a traveling companion. However, all of the Mage Apprentices say the same thing about having too much to do. Much help would be appreciated.

have you tried all of the different rooms?usually there are plenty of aprentaces in the practice rooms...

Yes, but they all say the same thing, like I don't have time right now. Just another thing, I am asking apprentices, not scholars.
