Hi there,
I have played BG1 a long time ago and had just bought another copy to give it another go.
Just set up my character, computer says it's autosaving and then the game starts in Candlekepp. problem is, whenever I try to save I am getting the message that the computer can't save it to my hard disk and immediately quits the game. The autosave is also now where to be found.
I have already deinstalled and reinstalled the game from scratch, with and without patches, same result, the game just won't save and quits instead.
any ideas? I am on an 1.25 Ghz G4 Mac, I used to play the game on this very same computer, it starts in classic and i never had a problem before.
thanks as always, Alexa

Hi Wise Grimwald,
thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me. to answer your question I am playing with a 6 CD set, not DVDs.
I just installed the game in a new folder but that did not help.
When I played this years ago I also had a 6 CD set but I do remember that I installed BG1 first, played it and once I was through I installed "Tales of the Sword Coast". However with this set that does not seem to be possible. The instruction refer to CD6 to install the entire game including TotSC so i guess there is a difference right there. However other than that this seems to be the same kind of set so i really don't understand why it won't work this time on the same computer.
Since the TofSC comes with a "missionpack" game already saved I tried that as well but as soon as I am trying to save it's over.
if you have any idea how to fix this I would be eternally grateful.
thank you for your time, alexa

It could be that you don't have a large enough cache size, but I would have thought that you would have been warned if that was the case. Sometimes the game won't save because somebody is wanting to talk to you. Also try moving and waiting until you stop moving before trying to save, sometimes the game is expecting something to happen and as a result will not save.
Hi guys,
thanks so much for your replies. i could not find my CDs for the longest time so I wasn't able to check out your suggestions. I finally found them and just did. I tried the new "temp" folder - didn't do anything. I also moved around and got my journal updated before i tried saving but same result, the game quits on me.
I just installed it on a friend's computer to see if the problem persists. this computer has never seen BG1 before, this was the first time this was installed on this Mac but again it quits on me when i try to save.
so at this point I am thinking there is something wrong with my software.
any ideas?
thanks as always, Alexa

...or maybe Apple changed it's filing system? My G4 has the same problem.so at this point I am thinking there is something wrong with my software
No! Today I solved my problem: with Conflict Catcher I found two Apple extensions (AppleMonitorPlugins and USBAppleMonitorModule) that together destabilized the screen of my Studio Display. After I disabled these extensions I could play (and save) Baldur's Gate again under OS9!
I hope to see it works for you too...
