Characters stops walking all of a sudden? Bug?

Post by Etabeeta »

Hello sometimes when I play my characters just stop walking. The enemies as well. The game doesnt freeze but they just wont walk. If I click walk right in fron on them, like 0.5 cm away, then they walk that bit most of the time, but if I want to move more than that they wont move. They can still hit and open doors if they are close enough and they can fire arrows, but now walk.

It happens for no apparant reason and the only way I can fix it is to restart BG. Is this a known bug with some way to fix it or what?

Try doing a search in the forum on walking, because this problem has arisen before. As I recall, several causes were discussed. If none of those help you, post again, here.

I did but it did not seem as anyone found a good answer to it. Only people that uses romances and stuff seems to get it, and that after Jaheira and Viconia argues or something. But I do nothing like that, and I dont use anything like shadowthief or any mod at all. So its really weird.

spoilers!

So I gather neither Jaheira and Viconia (or any other NPC's for that matter) had a romance conflict in your game?

Then, to my knowledge, there's only one other possible explanation for your stutter problem: the transformation to drow. If one of your party members had a regeneration item equipped while transforming, he/she might begin to stutter-step as well. I'm unsure if there's a solution to your problem that doesn't involve not equipping the items or using this Ease of Use mod(for the ReadMe, check here). As an aside, you could also use the updated version from the G3 site called the BG2 Tweak Pack.

Hope that helped. This really has got to be one of the worst bugs in the history of nasty bugs. If you’ve any further questions, feel free to ask, but I'm unsure if I can help you with this particular problem.

Is your game patched? Do you use a bugfix pack? If yes, which one?

On the Pocket Plane Group website, under mods, they have a Mac version of the BG2 Fixpack. Here's the link. But you really need to check out that entire site on your own, since I've recommended it enough to you. ;)

Items of regeneration in the Underdark especially, have been known to be a problem with stuttering, usually because the latest patch is not installed. Another problem is because a script Global is not kicking in.

Ok I downloaded the BG2 Fixpack for Mac but just now it froze again. I was in Sussandesnesassaressaressers, you know the elf city. It was my first time there, and when I met 2 stone golems and 1 adamanite golem my protagonist ran foward, then Korgan got about half way and then they all stopped.

Im gonna try to reinstall the whole thing. Is the only thing I need to make a backup of the save folder?

Yes. Be sure you copy it to another directory.
