Throne of Bhaal - Scripting Glitches

Post by MellowThello »

So, I assume my scripts are corrputed, but this problem is recurring even when I reinstall. Simply, scripted events like quest XP or cutscenes, or even monster spawns aren't working properly. It happened all throughout Watcher's Keep in SoA and I wasn't even able to fight the last boss because the event wouldn't function. Now, as soon as I've started the expansion, I'm noticing the same string of errors.

They vary, but they're usually along the lines of "Action:______ Not found. Check for proper brackets. Line Number: ___"

Here's a screenshot to demonstrate, followed by Valygar mysteriously taking over the dialogue:

Any help? I've the latest patch installed, along with Ascension, Redemption, and Turnabout and I really can't finish the game in this state :( .

First I'd suggest starting a new ToB game to see if the error occurs in the new game. If it doesn't then you have a corrupt save game file, yuck. If it does have the same problem then:

Do the error messages always refer to 2da files? If so is it the same Addxp2da file?

If so you could try moving the 2da file(s) from the override directory to, say, the root of Black Isle just to see if that makes a difference. I'm assuming one of the mods you are using has placed a buggy 2da file into the override directory, if so the mod will almost certainly malfunction, this is just an exercise to find out if the 2da file(s) are the culprits. If the 2da files are responsible, then find out which mod installed them in the override directory and uninstall it.

If addxp.2da isn't in your override directory, then you have a major malfunction, and will probably have to do a complete reinstall. Wait for input from other people though before doing anything, someone else might have a better idea. I've never experienced errors like the ones your having, maybe someone else has.
