can't install oblivion

Post by (ADD) oo..shiny »

Hi,
I am having trouble installing oblivion becasue of the rediculess ATI catalys controll center that I can get to install correctly.

Everytime I try to repair it or modify it, after I restart my computer I get a common language error.

Please help!

Thank you.

I can't personally help you with this question. But, I'd strongly recommend that you post your exact system specifications, such as:
operating system, RAM, gigs, processor speed, video card etc.

This will make it much easier for those knowledgeable in this area to help you with your problem :)

Oh, I gotcha.

I'm running windows xp, with enough RAM..trust me, my video card is a radeon 1800, with 20 gigs free on the drive I'm using.

But when I install the catalyst center it says it needs to be debugged using "JIT Debugger" and theier is here my problem lyes.... What the H#ll is that???

Thanks anyways.

Let me get this straight. The problem is not that you can't install oblivion, but that you can't install the Ati control center? And with radeon 1800 I'm assuming you mean X1800?

Don't install the control center then. If you really want it (it's just another resource hog in my opinion - just use the normal way to alter video card settings), you might want to check if it isn't actually missing the compulsory .NET installation.

The fact that you need to have .NET installed in addition was reason enough for me to go for the Omega drivers instead.

Sounds like the driver is corrupt or something. Is your driver from the installation CD or downloaded from ATI's official site? I would suggest re-installing the driver as what most have mentioned here. To be safe, though, remove any traces of your driver before re-installing it (refer to this link for more information).

Another method is to download the Omega drivers as what Tricky had mentioned just now. Very good, if you ask me. My friend installed the Omega ATI drivers on his computer and he noticed vast improvements in terms of game performance. :)

Omega drivers do require you to have at least a basic understanding of how your video card works, especially if you want to take full advantage of them. I see how that might not be for everyone though.

Alternatively, I'm also pretty sure there have to be regular ATI drivers without the control center package somewhere. I think had those installed at some point because I remember being surprised when the latest drivers suddenly included a grotesque GUI and all kinds of gadgets that actually granted me less access to the internal workings of my Radeon and more superficial tweaks I didn't really care about. AKA, the control center.

But that's just my feelings on that. It might be a bit less popular download, but I'm sure those stripped drivers can be found somewhere. Shouldn't matter though, it is just a matter of searching ati.com or Google thoroughly enough. They'll work, all the same.
