4 man party

Post by Laidlaw »

I've completed BG with the official party, and done all of chapter 2 of BG 2 countless times without ever completing it, but have always done so with 6 characters. I've decided to try going with a 4 strong group for BG 1 for now, made up of my PC(a cavalier), Imoen, Jaheira and Khalid. What I'd like to know is if I'll encounter any troubles with this group. I'll be doing the odd quest but otherwise saying fairly close to the storyline. Also, and I know this has been asked about many times on the forums, but could anyone give me any tips on when to dual Imoen to a mage? I was first considering just doing it at level 2, increasing find traps and neglecting everything else as I won't be doing much theiving with a paladin led party anyway, but I'm not sure. Mabye I should give her a couple more levels of thief considering the first few levels of xp won't count for much later anyway? Any feedback would be appreciated! :)

Your four peep party should do fine, especially if you archer away at the baddies.

I'd say dual Imoen at level 7, but that's because I'm mental about sequel continuity. But if you're not mental like I am, then dualling her a bit sooner might be more appropriate.

If you dual her at level 6, then you'll have to go thru the next 60,000 XP of the game without a thief.

If you dual her at level 5, then you'll have to go thru the next 40,000 XP of the game without a thief.

If you dual her at level 4, then you'll have to go thru the next 20,000 XP of the game without a thief.

In any event, with XP split amongst only four dudes, you won't go too long without a thief.

And I would raise her Open Locks ability score, too. Besides being continuity-friendly, your Paladin surely wouldn't object to unlocking the treasure chests of the fallen villainy of the Sword Coast, right? Or opening a locked door that stands between you and Butt-kicking for Goodness?
Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

I think I'll dual her at 5, thanks for the quick reply.

Just wanted to say that you should not have a problem with a 4 party,
I finished the game with a 2 player party with TOTSC installed
and i did duel Imoen at level 5 but on a side note i had a xp cap remover installed as well i think it gave me either 2 or 3 levels more.
I'm sure there are people here who have done it solo so not bragging.. :)
Have fun.

Only ever use a party of four, usually 2 of my own and 2 from the game, no problem at all.

Just have somewhere in mind for dumping scrolls and the like so that you don't fill your characters back pack up too much.

Have fun.
