Looking for an update

Post by thoon »

I played through Dungeon Lords (twice!) a good while back. Since then I've played through Deus Ex, Sacrifice (outstanding!) and played Oblivion until I got tired of it.

I believe I enjoyed Dungeon Lords more than any of them (except maybe Sacriifice) and I wondered if anyone could recommend a new game which is similar ?

Second, I just downloaded the 1.4 patch. If I want to play DL again, is it better to install this patch over my original version, or just buy the gold edition?

And finally, does anybody know if DL managed to overcome the intitial rotten reviews and sell enough to make itself respectable?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, you might like Dungeon Siege 2. It is more of an action based game, which I think Dungeon Lords is like too. There are forums here at GameBanshee for both Dungeon Siege 1 and 2, but I think you would prefer the more modern Dungeon Siege 2. (it's expansion called Broken World was released last spring).

As far as a patch vs. buying the collector's edition, well. I have played an older version that I patched to 1.4 and now I am currently playing the collector's (1.5). There are a few differences, and some new quests. If you can find the game on sale, then I would say go for it. Otherwise, stick to your 1.4 version. Don't get me wrong, I am having fun with the Collector's edition, but I paid $40 US for it...and I wish I had bought it on sale. ;) However, in the end the decision is yours and you should do what makes you happy.

I can't say if DreamCatcher or Heuristic Park, the distributors of the game ever redeemed themselves or not, they have many games out there to my knowledge. I know for sure Dungeon Lords game itself still suffers from a bad reputation. I keep explaining to people who tell me how bad the game is that they should judge it by it's 1.4 or 1.5 versions, not the old version they remember. Despite some flaws and bugs, I still think this game is quite a fun way to spend some time on a Saturday afternoon. :)

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll stick to 1.4, and just hope that D.W. Bradley is able to get out another game someday. Dungeon Siege II is worth a look, I guess.

Sure, you're welcome. To be honest I am more the person who asks for suggestions for games rather than giving them. I am pretty new to playing these sorts of games.
