Hi.
I'm playing IWD and reading the walkthru to see if I missed sum items, which especially helps with random items. I know that I can save before entering an area and if there is a random chest I can reload if I don't like the item in it.
BUT
I just got to Kresselack and his coffin gives me Fine Long Sword +1 and I've read that here I can find some other items in there. I just lost 2 hours of trying to get something else than this sword and all I managed to do is get Mieliki's Cradle ONCE... The problem is that I can't open the coffin UNTIL I've disposed of Lysan., so first I need to talk to Kress and then to Lysan and then back to Kress bla bla...
My question is if there is a way to "open" or "see" what is inside his coffin (or some other random chest)?
I would be VERY happy if somebody would reply to this
I could use a editor like DaleKeeper, but I would rather get the item this way (tho if getting into that coffin is thru haxing I would still do it).
Regarding random chests
I would suggest saving, entering, and opening the coffin to see what's there, even if Kresselack turns hostile. If you like what you see, go back to your saved game, do the quest, and you've got what you want. If the game doesn't allow you to open K's coffin (e.g. it's "locked"), then there is no shortcut. My question is if there is a way to "open" or "see" what is inside his coffin (or some other random chest)?
Personally, I wouldn't bother. I usually sell the weapons I get from the coffin anyway, and it's generally not worth the hassle of reloading/refighting to obtain the priciest items.
Slight spoilers, perhaps

There's only three places I can think of where I'd reload to get random items - two in the Severed Hand (elven chain, bone marrow belt) and one in Lower Dorn's Deep (repeating heavy crossbow).
When your back is against the wall... the other guy is in a whole lotta trouble.
Kresselack's items are not too much. Just some +1 items with some nifty description (this is going to change when my mod is released, he he!). The reload and try again tactics works best in Severed Hand due to small chambers. I would actually recommend it in Kaylessa's room, since you might get either 3 of the best items in the game either one of the worst.
Dan Simpson wrote a walkthrough which contains all the random loot. Just reading it is easier than reloading endlessly.
There are only a few situations where it might be worth to reload to enforce getting the best items, like the bone marrow belt, ring of reckless action or the repeating heavy crossbow (with HoW). Kresselack's items are soon outclassed by items you'll find later and therefore not worth a single reload.
Save the reloads for dragon's eye level 1 for example.
