I just steamrolled Yxunomei...

Post by beckettss »

Dear God, I only bring this up because I'm so shocked. I lost NO HIT POINTS during the entire battle with her and her priestly friends. It was ridiculous. For those who are looking for a good Yxunomei strategy; haste and summons will do wonders. Add a little bless and a magic missle, and the snake woman goes down FAST.

Pardon the announcement, but I'm quite elated.

I've taken her down in similar fashion.

It's funny, because you keep hearing about how tough this fight is and all, but when it comes to it, those summons are awesome and I just had my best fighter throwing that magical axe at her the whole time.

When my solo halfling fighter/thief encountered her in HoF mode she made short work of her with the throwing dagger +4 while the ogres from the girdle kept her friends busy.
Afterwards I realized that I had forgotten to have her drink the potions like the oil of speed or giant strength potion like I had planned for this fight.

Yxonomej isn't really hard to defeat, especially if you play with HoW installed at very hard difficulty and your party has twice the XP it should have at this point you can kill her very fast.

The main problem with Yxonomej is that she's immune to most weapons which is easy to handle if you know which weapons can hurt her beforehand, but when you first meet her it takes several rounds to find it out yourself during which you only receive damage.

I think in the unpatched original game she was only vulnerable to +3 weapons and above and couldn't be hurt by +2 weapons like now.
It adds a lot of difficulty when only Conlan's hammer can hurt her, especially if you didn't get it.

The problem with Haste is that Yx casts Dispel. It has to be timed right or you lose the benefit and get fatigued as well.

You can also cast multiple movement inhibitors on the doorway and hope she gets stuck. I've had that happen a few times.

She's really only tough if she gets into melee with you. The reason she can be so difficult at this stage of the game is her weapon invulnerabilities, magic resistance, and massive melee attacks. To that point in the game, parties haven't had to deal with that kind of package, and it can take a few failures to readjust one's tactics.

The problem I had with her was that once she managed to free herself from my web/entangle spells, she focused on the weakest member of my party and literally reduced him to chunks while the others were hammering away at her. By the time the fight with her rolled around, my tanks, cleric and ranger had decent HP, but my pure wizard was quite the different story.

It took me three tries to get her down, and the last time only worked because I banished my wizard to the last room in the adjoining hallway and sandwiched her between a doorway, then reduced her to pieces while her entourage was still stuck in the web spell.
