Newbie/Special Help
... thanks for all the help !
The "spellmaking" might be the answer
I made a bunch ... my ranged/touch/paralyze/chameleon/levitate
I put some power in my destruction spells ... hopefully it helps those "tomb/cave" fights.
You guys have really helped.
I couldn't find that "Open Lock" spell ... I remember where the Resist Magicka is(... I didn't buy it at the beginning)
Received my Mage Guild Quest ... Casius Quest
I have to find one of those "Houses" now ... was hoping to do those mad wizards quests ... probably stick with a mainstream house; when I find one
Now I can wander and try my new spells = see if they make the difference ?
At least they're cheap, so I can remake them when needed.
I hit all the Mage Guilds ... so many spells to choose from
I stuck to those reccomended in this thread ... not sure when/where to use most of those offered
The spellmaker at Balmora said Mark/Recall are handy ... bought them too ... no idea what they do
If I mod, I think I lose my save games ?
I'll use next time.
Mr_Sir ... thanks for the link

Read the PS on my last post. The male dark elf in the Balmora mages guild sells Open lock I think.

Us the spell Mark somewhere that you want to come back to, for example I've used it at a spot in Caldera, right outside the creeper's place, then when I've just looted a cave and have all the stuff to sell, Use the Recall and it will transport you back to the Mark spot, I then run in to creeper and sell the loot....Mark and Recall are used to travel quickly from spots you can pick.

Running out of $.
I keep running back to Seyda Neen/Bitter Coast "hoping" to get an assasin attack .... sell his equipment
But, he's kicked my butt last 3 times.
I read the "Money Making Schemes" thread.
Not sure if I'm ready for the Daedra/Dwemer Ruins(... first I have to find them).
Don't know who Creeper is
Read something about potions ... Balmora Temple
Not sure what he means "mix" potions" etc ... here's part of the post.........>
i found when your still weak at the beginning, when or if you go to balmora, you can go to the temple and go straight through the first walk way and turn right then go to room right there and barter with the guy. he has infinate ingredients of some types.
buy at least two different kinds of ingredients with the restore fatigue effect, till you have like 300 of both. then make restore fatigue potions till the ingredients are gone. you should have tons of restore fatigue potions that you can sell back to him making a profit. (example: saltrice = 1 gold, hound meat = 1 gold, mix the two and get a potion worth about 21 gold, you get 20 gold profit per potion) now keep doing this and you will level up your alchemy skill till you can make potions that are worth 100s of drakes for only spending 2 drakes out of your pocket.
Also when you sell the potions back to him, he can only buy so many because of how much money he is carrying. the good thing is that when you buy more ingredients the money you use to pay for them becomes the sellers gold. you can do this proccess over an over till you are really high in alchemy
Seems easy enough ... can someone explain how to mix potions
Read many posts on this $ making idea.
Any other simple $ making ideas.
I'm not looking to get filthy rich ... just ideas so I don't have to spend hours making $300
I've been playing like 5hrs a night, and I'm running around stealing forks/plates/goblets = no bucks for the bang; so to speak
Looking to buy "Endurance" skills to raise this category ... need to make some better spells !!
I like the respawning Daedra Ruins idea, but I'm not sure I can win at this point.
But Im ay try if no better options are worthwhile
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Please explain, step-by-step, if any mixing is involved = not sure how to do it ... I did steal some alchemy stuff = at the top of that winding staircase(.. do I use that ?)
Read a post on drinking potions ... that supposedly become bigger better potions worth lots of $ = I thought if you drink them; you use them up ?
Maybe someone can clarify this too
Found all the above in the "Money Making Scheme" thread.
I know we shouldn't duplicate threads, but I'm confused on how to implement the ideas within the posts.
Thanks Guys !

Yes, that is some of the best alchemy equipment in the game (I take it you were in Caldera?).
But... in order to mix potions without consistently failing your alchemy skill needs to be at about 50 (at least). Alchemy is actually one of the few skills I regularly pay to train in because often collecting the ingredients can take time and money, and it gets frustrating to have your potions perpetually go "poof."
This is pretty cheap... but if you join the Mage and Fighter guilds you will have access to their supply chests which replenish about once a month (game time). You'll find these chests in several towns/cities as well...
A lot of what you find in there can be sold, which gives you some cash.
Though, you'd be well advised to hang onto the standard restore health and restore magicka potions.

Creeper is a scamp in Caldera that has more money 5K and gives full price.
As far as using alchemy...just equip one of the alchemy tools and a box comes up withe the option to mix and match various herbs, etc...
Keep it Up Joe 05, seems to me you're catching on quite quickly.

"Catching On"; well with all the help, I think it's more like "Getting By"
Well at least I have good alchemy equipment.
I'm short on cash, so I can't up my Alchemy skill = feel like I'm in a "catch 22"
If I ever gey it to 50 or so, I'll try to equip the stuff I found in Caldera.
Guess we bop around the map killing creatures ... I'm going to look for that Daedra Ruin
Maybe I get lucky ... if I die, well, I'm good at it by now

That's how is done....my new level 6 dark elf, she's not as strong as I like but part of the appeal of my playing is in the strategy of how to deal with the disadvantages and well as the planning for the future.joe05 wrote:Dragon Wench/BlueSky - thanks.

I'd leave the Daedric ruins for a while if I was you, Dremora reflect magicka, and if magic is you're main weapon, that's bad news.
PS Have you looted all the chests that are outdoors in Balmora, and in the plaza in the Foreign quarter in Vivec, that will make you a little money.

To make some quick money deposit all your stuff somewhere so you can get as light a possible. Get hold of some Skooma if you want to go even faster and a standard rising force potion. All this can be found in the seyda neen bandits cave. (The rising force potion is underwater somewhere so it might be a bit tricky to find.) Go to the Balmora Guard tower near Caius Cosade's (sp) house and on your way up the stairs grab the weapons off the rack. SAVE. Then go to the top of the stairs and talk to the guard so he turns to face you with his back to the wardrobe. Use your spell Chameleon and sneak around the guard. Use your rising force potion and grab the sword from the top of the wardrobe. If you have don't get caught drink your Skooma or any other speed or strength potions you have and get out the tower and go to the armourer across the river and sell the weapons. You might like to keep the sword. It's pretty decent if you can use it. If you get caught just reload and try again. I got it first time though with level five sneak so it's not hard. I hope this helps.
Ps
The strength potions aren't really needed. I only put that part in because I got over encumbered so I had to get to the armourers on the levitate potion.
EDIT: Ignore this. All the items are damaged and you can only sell them for about 21g in total. The sword will get more but I would keep it because it's a very good weapon.

Rather a convoluted way of getting the sword of white woe, all you need is a telekenesis spell or potion. As for the fact that they're damaged, well you can pick up 10 free journeyman's repair hammers in each fighters guild, so that's not a problem.Magelord648 wrote:To make some quick money deposit all your stuff somewhere so you can get as light a possible. That's the method I use too You can stand on the top floor so that the guard cannot see you because of a pillar and just use a telekenisis potion to take the sword from under his nose then simply walk out. Its not very realistic that he doesn't notice but thats just something you can use to your advantagegalraen wrote:Rather a convoluted way of getting the sword of white woe, all you need is a telekenesis spell or potion. always have to laugh when I drown, seems like I always push the limit even with potions and spells....
Like galraen pointed out, I recommend getting a little bit stronger before trying.
I'm waiting till my character gets to at least a level 10 before taking on some of the ruins.
ps I'm getting some good ideas from this thread also, even as many times that I've played through.

Another *extremely* cheesy way to make some fast cash... If you go to the pawn shop in Suran, you'll see the vendor has a glass dagger for sale. Because it is in bad repair it is very cheap (under a 100 gold). You can get it fixed for peanuts and then sell it to Creeper for 4000 gold.

My way is easier. At a low level it can be hard to find a telekenesis potion and the spell is near impossible. Though if you save getting the sword until later I would recommend Galraen's method as it becomes the easier option at a higher level.galraen wrote:Rather a convoluted way of getting the sword of white woe, all you need is a telekenesis spell or potion. @Joe,
On the subject of theft.... there is an item that *greatly* increases your chances of stealing items....
Let us know, however, if you want to be spoiled or if you just want to stumble across it yourself

I've never had a problem getting telekinesis potions as they are really easy to make even with low-ish alchemy as the main ingredients can be found in abundance even at low levels. It all depends on your character. A magic user should be able to use Galrean's method easily right from a low level. A melee user would find it more difficult however.Magelord648 wrote:My way is easier. At a low level it can be hard to find a telekenesis potion and the spell is near impossible. Not if you're playing a Breton mage, which the player we're trying to help is.Magelord648 wrote:My way is easier. The telekenesis potion is quite easy to make actually. All you need is bonemeal and Scuttle, both of which are readily available, unless of course your alchemy skill is 5. The free set of Master Apparatus helps of course.
As for DW's item, if it's the amulet I'm thinking of, I think Joe05 might find that fight a bit tough first time up. Knowing how to tackle that encounter, i.e. ignoring the dialogue and going straight for the person wearing the amulet, makes it fairly easy, but if you talk to the 'lady in distress' first, and try to recover her lost item, it can be brutal.

*********spoilers************dont read if you dont want a long explanation, and skip to the <___> if your not on a new character.
My way of getting rich quick.....I can get like 10k gold in my first half hour of playing. From new char loot everything in the room and storage room where you got your papers and take the 31 gold out of the chest. If your a big magic user with good shortblade and bound dagger then use bound dagger and kill celus gravius (sorry if spelling is wrong)after you get everything off him(you'll have to drop the stolen stuff before killing him or else he'll conficate it.)when you kill him DONT take the stuff.Take the stuff off him and then drop it on the floor.Got outside and you'll get chased by the gaurds, let yourself go to jail and you'll come back right by the front door again.Go in and get the stuff(you'll probably have to make more than one trip to arielle's(again sorry for spelling))give the ring back to forgoth so arielle wil give you better deals, sell it all to arielle for a lot of $$$.then talk to hrisskar upstairs and loot forgoth's hiding spot and DONT give any of it back.the head out across the water by arielle tradehouse and head around there a bit to find a dead body with 200 gold.go to the old guy who gave you your stats and ask him abou the murder of (cant remember his name).he has only 2 chat options so it wont be hard to find.Go to foryn gilniths house and talk to him about the murder and tell him it isn't acceptable when he's done. You have to kill him but he doesnt have any weapon and he only punchs so killing him will be easy.if needed ust keep some restore fatigue potions from arielle's.loot him and if you want sell everything in his house,he has a good ring on him that's worth 200 but i keep it because its good for enchanting.Go to the old guy agan and he'll give you another 500 gold.Whoopie we're leaving seyda neen!<__>Go to balmora and get some kind of telekenisis potion or spell then go to suran.in the trade house or smith one of the shops there'll be a druegh cuiruss and helm.go up the stair case in sneak untill you disappear.you should be able to reach the cuiruss and helm with the telekenisis still.steal them then go to any shop to sell the cuiruss for like 9000, and the helm for like 4000.congratulations....your rich

A Demon without the Hate, A Rose without the Thorns. He will pay!!!
Thanks for the help/tips.
I've increased my cash.
I have Telekinesis ... was going to use it for opening doors in tombs, so I could shoot before being hacked to death
Good, now another use.
My keys are: 9- Ranged; 8- Touch; 7- Paralyze; 6- Illusion; 5- Levitate; 4- Telekinesis ... 3 thru 1 are for whatever I may need at any given point ... working out ok = I like everything moved to the "right side" ... I basically start near 5 or 6 then hit 7, then 8 or 9 = that's my defacto "in over my head" strategy
I've got a few questions ... I'll try to keep them brief(... seems I figure out one thing; then two new questions pop up = sorry)
#1: I need to regenerate magicka
I tried eating restore, but it did nothing ... I read the Alchemy site provide by Mr_Sir(... thanks), but I see no "regeneration"; just fortify; fortify maximum; restore
I guess I have to mix, not eat what I aleady found ?
Which mix is best ?
#2: I need to better my shortblade / increase shortblade skill / enchant(.. did figure out Soultrap)
I can't find a "shortblade trainer" ... some Thiefs won't train me = should I join them = I'm guessing they would use shortblade weapons ... I've hit every Mage-travel town; looked in all taverns etc; no shortblade trainer
I read a Azura Soul Gem isn't too pricey + doesn't disappear after use, is thst correct ?
I might want to buy one !!!
When I run out of Magicka and can't rest due to "nearby enenies, I'm in trouble
I've been hacking away trying to up my shortblade skill, but it's "slow going".
#3: Can someone give me a tip on; where are the Dwervyn(sp?) Ruins.
I keep running arond, trying to follow those directions = no luck last night(.. like go east to Suran quest = failed to mention Suran was realllly far away)
I found the Daedric Ruins = wish I missed them ... of course I had to fight ... "sniped" everyone but the Delmora Lord(... sniped him till my magicka ran low) ... I did beat him; "have no idea how" (... in melee, I just hit my keys and can't see the screen) ... used hide/paralyze/shortblade ... ok, it did take 5+ tries to beat him ... I may try again; but I think it was just dumb luck
The goods brought $ ... found Creeper
Slowly, things are coming together.
But I see I need more than Magicka(.. good spells) alone.
Thanks for all the help/tips/advice = I'd still be whooping rats without your help
