importing from BG1

Post by Levendis »

I've been soloing a mage in BG1 with the intention of bringing him into BG2 and kitting him into a Wild Mage (still solo). However, I'm a good way through the game and thought it would be more interesting to play a cleric/mage that I would bring into BG2 and then SK it into a Cleric/Wild Mage. However, I'm pretty far along in BG1 and don't want to start all over again. I was thinking of creating the character in BG1, GKing him to what he would be at the end of the game, and then importing him into BG2. However, I'm wondering what from BG1 has an impact on BG2. I know the golden pantaloons carry over, as well as there's some implications for importing a character with Drizzt's gear. Is there anything else?

Actually there is.

There are 2 catogories (helmets and armour) from wich you can carry over 1 item. These can be found on places in the first dungeon. It's not a big factor but it is a factor.

What do you mean? Is this the Helm of Balduran thing? I've heard about that, but I've noticed that it's still in the same spot if I import or not.

There is an exploit that enables you to carry over nearly everything from BG1.
If you want to know how to do it, feel free to ask. Some of the items in BG1 don't work in SoA however, Algernon's cloak for instance only raises charisma, you cannot use it for charming. Some of the Tomes don't work at all.
If you want to know how to do the exploit, feel free to ask. I like to work these sort of things myself as it gives more satisfaction

That is one of them. The helm of balduran is the default you will find. If you have another helmet (not all of them though) on it will be on the same place as the helm of balduran.
Same goes for the armour. I believe the standard for that one is the platemail +1. It is not a huge factor to consider but it is there.

Wise gramwald the thing you talk about is exactly that: an exploit. What I'm talking about is regular use of the game. It's your choise if you wan't to use it.
SPOILERS AHEAD

As I recall is one the leader of the dreugar dwarfs.

I particularly wanted to carry Algernon's cloak over so that I could continue my "No killing, minimum deaths" game into SoA. I therefore spent quite some time in working out how to get it into SoA. It was quite a disappointment that the cloak of Algernon didn't work any more as I believe that the lack of it makes that style of play virtually impossible. Another factor that I think will make it impossible is the fact that the bad guys are often by themselves in SoA with the result that charming one character so that they fight each other is no longer an option. This means that even if my solo character is a mage of some sort, I do not believe that it will be possible to win the game without killing.
