Honk if you like Orcs
Honk if you like Orcs
Orcs do not seem to be very popular. Why is that? I'm thinking about playing one, is there any reason I shouldn't? Has any one played an Orc? If so, what was he/she like? They seem to build for combat, so did you play him as a fighter type or not?

I've never played an Orc myself, but I know quite a few people who did, and they all seemed to gear towards combat. That said, there's an Orc traveling with me at the moment (CM companion project V2.8), and even though he's a 4 levels behind me (level 68 ), he can still kick my arse in single combat (I'm an Argonian fighter/mage mix).
So the answer is, yes, Orcs do tend to lean towards combat. My Orc pal once fought two golden saints and a dremora lord with the difficulty at %100, and came out on top with 2/3rds of his health left

Started a game as an orc back last summer, then had conflicts from mods....
only got to a level 4 with him, but he was combat geared.....will probably try again in the future, since I found a mod that applies tattoos to all the orc characters....

Echoing the above, I have played an Orc and quite liked it. As you're finding out, they do tend toward combat but like everything else, the more you use magic, the better you get. I imagine if you choose an Orc then choose your own class you could add in the magic stuff and have quite a studly character. Imagine an Orc in combat armed with Destruction or Illusion and conjuring daedric armor!! Whooeee!!!
Well, gee, any race can be combat-oriented if you make them that way. I've got a combat-oriented Dunmer, for instance. I rather dislike Orcs though, because their bonus skills and powers are mediocre.Alien_Newborn wrote:I've never played an Orc myself, but I know quite a few people who did, and they all seemed to gear towards combat. Yes, that is true; Indeed, I suppose it is a criticism I have of the game. Eventually (unless you are very careful) all of the races tend to look the same in terms of skills and abilities, unless you have a specific magic-using character, which does alter things a bit.d-mac wrote:Well, gee, any race can be combat-oriented if you make them that way. As to your second point, however, it's all about roleplaying. Besides, unless you go to the effort of making (and maintaining) a less powered character, the game basically ensures that all "classes" become ridiculously over powered.
On topic however, I did once create an orc; I pumped up her intelligence and gave her the Atronach sign.. She was a very effective battle mage.

i hate orcs, only because i had a bad experience with one early on in the game. i was in the underworks or whatever they're called of one of vivec's cantons and i saw an orc there. i tried to go talk to him but then he started chasing me and hitting me with a stick and i was going "**** RUN!!!!!!" but he kept hitting me and making me stop for a second, then he hit me again and again and again. i did manage to get out, but i now hate orcs.
When a few people die, it's a tragedy. When thousands do, it's a statistic.

There's sort of a reason for that. Did you happen to check out the general area in which the orc was standing?wing wrote:i hate orcs, only because i had a bad experience with one early on in the game. i was in the underworks or whatever they're called of one of vivec's cantons and i saw an orc there. i tried to go talk to him but then he started chasing me and hitting me with a stick and i was going "**** RUN!!!!!!" but he kept hitting me and making me stop for a second, then he hit me again and again and again. i did manage to get out, but i now hate orcs.
Anyway, to topic:
Did you create your orc Coot? How is that going? I'm curious, since I've I found my own experience quite interesting.

Exactly! That's why I hate people too.wing wrote: and the people inside aren't much nicer than the orc.
@ DW: I created my Orc, using one of Westly's headpacks so I wouldn't scare little children or turn milk sour. Of course, the rage ability is a bit obsolete for a char that doesn't like violence and you have to be careful what clothes to buy. Some things just don't go with green.
Other than that, it's going fine.

Used a mod that added the Ayleid race, not sure of spelling here, but a green skinned race also, daughter playing it and she is from the sim school of gaming, and saying the same thing, not everything goes with that color...:laugh:Coot wrote:... and you have to be careful what clothes to buy. doesn't bother me, I'm colorblind....

The Ayleid are one of my favorite modder made races. They're a little more graceful than Orcs - actually a lot more graceful than Orcs - so most clothes, especially those from mods, go better with them than with Orcs.
Since I made a char that stays away from melee as much as possible (again) the downside of the rage ability hasn't been much of a problem so far. This might change if I decide to do major quests. I suppose I could compensate with some agility enhancing item.
