Stuck in Fargrove sewers
First time posting. I searched for this answer already and don't think I found it.
I have the bridge key and think I'm in the room where I'm suppose to use it to raise the bridge, but I can't seem to figure out how to use the key. I don't see any key holes in the room. How do I use the key?

Just curious
With mapping on, I found two gated areas in the fargrove sewers you can "see" into. Experience tells me, when this is so, there is a way to get in the room. I searched above / under water for buttons / loose bricks or passageways to swim through to get in these two rooms. No luck though. Anybody got a clue ? Or is this just another anomoly ?

Standing south of the bridge facing north go to your left/ west through the door and down the steps. In the room at the bottom of the steps you'll find a strip of water. Jump in, dive down and swim to the north through an underwater opening and come back up for air in a new room (beware more slimes). There on the floor you'll find a new key. D

Need help...stuck in Fargrove sewers...
I have the key to the doors and I have the key to the bridge. I wandered into some kind of old hotel or such with two lifts. One lift might work, but it has no switch handle. The other lift doesn't work. When I try to bash the switch without the handle, a popup says "missing required item". I've been down here for three weeks. It's getting old. And these goblins actually just pop up right in front of me...endlessly. And more and more frequently. I'm going to die down here aren't I?

I haven't played this game in over a year. It sounds like your in the theater basement. Click on the sticky "Walkthrough, Maps and More". To the right under "Human Lands" click on "Theater Basement". You will find the help you need there.MingDragon wrote:I have the key to the doors and I have the key to the bridge. I wandered into some kind of old hotel or such with two lifts. Ming Dragon:
For a quick help to your problem and as posted you probably need a walkthrough because things will only get worse for you from here, there is a lift handle in the theatre basement level where you are. Near the broken lift (it states "broken lift" in the menu bar and is distiguished from the other in that manner) there is a lift handle against the wall. Grab it and go back to the other lift. There is a socket in the floor. Hit the activate key (usually the shift key) and the handle should now go into the socket. Jump on the lift, click on the handle and the elevator/lift will take you to the next level. You can now go between the two floors.
Also, if you are having problems with the number and difficulty of monsters there is a solution. Go to the option menu at start up. (Where the dungeon entrance load screen is) In the top left corner should be the options to change frequency of monster encounters and the difficulty of the monsters. Dropping both of these to easy and few encounters while exploring makes most dungeons and travel a lot easier. Consequently, posting in the wilderness or standing next to town guards in Fargrove while changing this to more frequent and hard will increase the enemies you encounter and give you more points when you kill them, aiding you in leveling up faster. Moreover, since its seems the town guards never die, they can do most of the killing for you while you sit back kinda nearby & assist as you like.....usually with a bow. Nice way to get rich on katals, weapons, potions and the like. If you don't use the merchant exploit, that is.

Theater basement - Lift Handle...
Well, thank you greatly! I'll look for a handle. And, by the way, the walkthroughs I've read are so general as to be pretty much useless on a blow by blow issue. I've also read through what seems hundreds of posts trying to gain insights. They talk about things I've not encountered. Any hints about how to kill the fire breathing Drakes? Anyone?

Ming Dragon:
Killing Fire Breathing Dragons or Fire Drakes is an involved topic and there have been quite a few posts from forum members on their *favorite* method due to the xp (250,000) you can get from killing one. However, to have any chance at being successful, one certainly needs their character to be a higher level than say a beginning level, otherwise it will be a frustrating experience. As a rule of thumb (and these can be altered some by experienced players) one needs good armor, a good weapon (preferably a winter weapon that can freeze) some hit points, access to fire protection (items or celestial spell fire ward) and/or powerful spells. The best or favorite method often has to do with your class selection, because this effects the methods available to you as mentioned in the previous sentence. If you could provide a little more info on your class choices, that would help. I know some players who have gotten their celestial magic to level 12 or so and summoned a guardian angel several times (multiple crystals) and let them do the killing while they pluck away with a bow. Honestly though, unless you have a character editor or have been in the Fargrove Theatre for a very long, long time, you are going to have trouble even making it to the Dragon's territory, much less killing one.......more likely there will be roasted hero on the menu and mmmm that's not too tasty.

Sewer Dweller thanks tou greatly...
Well, as a matter of fact, let me fill you in on this character I've spawned. I inserted a Human Female with Acrobat heraldry and Fighter Class thinking at the time these would be admirable characteristics. I received the game for Christmas last, the Collectors Edition. I've never played any other games before this one. I read some of the walkthrough and very little was of much use other than what do I do first. At character level five I first discovered the hazaeds of the Fargrove sewers after dropping in on a vastly superior force of monstrous creatures. They terminated this character with short dispatch and walked away laughing. Ah ha!! I thought. One needs a vastly more powerful character to even begin the game. So, I inserted the same character over again but with the notion of building her stats a bit more before engaging the quests. And, I read a whole bunch more on the forums. I finally discovered a route to the ridgelands above from the temple ruins and ventured each episode to the ridges above, all the while building a stronger and stronger character... I thought. Ultimately, I have a character at level one hundred three with an awsome arsanal at her disposal and I've not been through the Fargrove sewers yet... still fearing them from my characters first assassination. Yesterday, I encountered my fifth Fire Drake. They are indeed two hundred fifty thousand points, and they drop brimstone powder. A nice item for potions. Brindall, my character, has killed more than thirteen hundred Borloth and forty three Troll Giants... not to mention seventeen hundred Harrowbark Walkers. I have some screen shots I'd like to post but I can't figure out how to do that.

I have built my characters (and I usually play a female elf, one of the wimpiest in terms of strength and vitality) up to level 9 before going into the sewer, and found it not terribly difficult. Of course that is with the settings on less. A level of over a 100 seems like it would take away some of the challenge to the game. You may want to make it to Fargrove proper so you can start adding some classes to your character.
If you run into a difficult situation, you can pause the attack by bringing up your inventory screen or character sheet. Your character will recover health, the enemies won't recover their's and they will stop attacking you as long as those screens are up. Also the esc key works in the same way.
The rod you need is in a corner next to the broken lift (NOT the lift with the broken lift lever). You will have to keep an eye out for it, it is benind a few crates. There is a thread about killing drakes, I believe it is on the second page of this forum. I find a bow is essential for me, with patience you can kill a dragon and they won't even spot you. Some people prefer rushing in with melee weapons, but I don't see the need to do that unless there is only one dragon around. Early in the game, there is several of them and rushing in is a recipe for disaster.
If your screenshot is under 100kb you can attach it to your post. When making your post, look down below where it says "additional options" and look for the button that says manage attachments. You can then upload the image from your computer. It will then be attached to the post and can be clicked on. If your image is bigger than 100kb, you will need an image host such as photobucket:
Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket
You can get a free account with them, upload your pictures to your account and then post the url of the photo in your post. You can also use the img code for that, but it will still display as an url in your post rather than a picture because GameBansee has img code disabled.
If you have a question about that, let me know and I will try to help you further.

Fargrove sewer peril and the Fire Drake
Your personal interaction is exceedingly more helpful than the long reads looking for specific information. It is greatly appreciated. I agree that laying back and plunking endlessly with a bow or throw weapon is excellent. I have employed just that tactic inumerable times to build my character to her current status. Having a character that can be easily killed necessitates such tactics, I would think. I picked up a Venom Dagger (dozens actually) from a Thief Brigande and have used it effectively. The increased damage was a welcomed improvement over my Short Bow. Against a pack of eighteen Brigands, the poison works wonders. I try to hit each one at least once and then let the poison do it's work. It takes about twenty seconds and then the Brigands literally start dying all around me without my firing a shot. Even the Borloth succumbs to the poison. Firing and running for dear life has always been a favored tactic. As I flee to a more defensable position, the caption shows them dying behind me from the poison, one after another.
The Fire Drakes are unaffected by the Fireball weapon. This had been my characters most powerful weapon... and then here is this monster that eats them for breakfast. The Freezing Touch with a Fangtip Blade +1 works great. The freeze stops the Drakes attack but the Drake is able to turn from side to side and maintains his direction while frozen facing your character so as to throw flames at the first opportunity when it thaws. My character suffers such great armor damage during this attack that I'm unable to maintain the offensive. The Fire Drake can spray flames underneath himself! They spray flames and spit Fireballs and strike with it's horns and barbed tail as well. When the Drake took flight, I got underneath and thrust and parried with Freezing Touch. The Freezing Touch wouldn't strike but I gained many twenty five and thirty damage strikes against it. Then it sprayed the fire underneath! Naturally I took flight to a defensable position. The Drakes must drop both 'brimstone powder' and 'dragons tooth'. I have some of both. I don't really know when I picked up the brimstone powder. I may have gotten it from a treasure chest or something. But the Drakes definately drop 'dragons tooth'. I've verified that. They may be similar to the Harrowbark Walkers however, a few Harrowbarks drop both the Mandrake Root and the Mordis Vine while most drop only the Mordis Vine.
What are these Rune Stones for? How do you use them? I'll read the forum further on this topic.

I have a lot of different strategies I employ for drakes, it all depends on the class of the character, and their overall level. It is fun, because I like to plan out my stratgy...like a general. There are no fire based spells that will work on a dragon, they have an innate resistance to that, I assume because it is their "natural element". They breathe it after all. You will find there are a few creatures like that in the game, for example the moonbeasts. They live on a island in Lost Lake and any ice based spell makes them laugh. Fire based spells work well on them, additionally shooting sparks and poison cloud.
I have played the game for several months and I must say, I think you got the brimstone powder someplace else. I have only had Drakes drop the dragon tooth. They aren't like the Harrowbark walkers in that respect, because you are correct that HWs can drop a couple of kataals. For me, I have had them drop mordis vine and mandrake root.
Rune stones are used to power rune spells. You can read about the different rune spells here:
http://www.gamebanshee.com/dungeonlords/runemagic.php
Sadly, a number of the rune spells are broken, you can read which ones in the sticky located at the top of the DL forum page. I like rune blades for a melee character, and shards of stone is a very powerfull offensive rune spell.
*edit* I forgot to mention that it has been my experience that you can only find the actual rune spells at a shop. The stones may be found in chests as well as drops occasionally, but I have never found an actual rune spell that way. The shopkeeper with the best stock of rune spells is Grymlock, in the Northern Steppes, although a few of the other shopkeepers (such as the Celestial guild) have a few rune spells in stock.
I see that we are kind of moving off topic for the scope of this thread. If something hasn't been done to death already, you can always start your own thread to ask a question. For example, if you wanted to discuss general game play strategies or whatever, you could conceivably start a thread to do so. This wouldn't extend to killing dragons, because there is already an established thread for that. I mean, I could go on gabbing about stuff, ( I am a gabber ) but I also don't want to move this thread way off topic.

First, let me apologize to you. I can't believe that you've not gone through the sewers, yet have leveled your character up to 103. That is well, just awesome! I thought you were a noob and therefor was trying to gently suggest in an earlier post that you needed to level your character a little before going through the F. sewer, but stupid me. 103--Geez. I had no idea there is such a ridge that allows you out. Everytime I've tried it I failed, so I assume you had a high athletics skill? Perhaps you could tell me what skill level of athletics you had as well as where you were sucessful climbing out? Thanks in advance for that info, I'd like to try that. As Kath stated, you will have zero trouble with the F. sewers at 103. She also answered all your other questions so I won't bore you with repeating them and just instead say, ditto.
As to killing fire drakes specifically, you probably have more experience with that than I do and let me tell you given how you did it you must have fighting skills I'd kill to have. A venom dagger, eh? Wow. Well, to echo Kath, the fire drake is immune to fire spells, but suffers twice the damage from ice spells. I picked that up in a dev forum back nearly a year ago, so I know the info is good. The dev also stated that fire spells heal them, so if it survived the patches.....mmmm. And again like Kath, the only katal I've got from them is the Dragon Tooth. As I intimated in my earlier post, I generally use a bow--if you can get your hands on a venom bow-that's very effective-similar to what you've seen on the dagger. I've found distance to be the best policy when fighting them-that and some kind of fire protection---their fire attack is deadly. But heck, YOU tell us how to fight them! You are the pro at 103!
Good luck,
jparm3rd.
