Question about Great Wyrm Gauntlets

Does the fire damage only apply when one's character is unarmed? I dont think its comin up when I have a weapon equipped.

the damage is for when you are unarmed, these type of gauntlets are meant for monks. However there are some gloves that will give you a strength bonus (the ones found in the ironfist stronghold early in the game), this applies even if you are not unarmed.
