Main character in Tactics

Post by GawainBS »

Hello, it's me again. :)
Do you guys think the trait Fast Shot is worth it? Or the trait Finesse? Also, is it true that Sniper perk is broken in Tactics?

Thanks in advance!

For the Fast Shoot perk, it is very usable, as it allows you to spend one AP less to shooting, which makes it very useful for weapons which requires 6 AP or so to shoot...

Of course the trade off is that you can't aim, but you can leave without that option if you are using weapons that are threw or which only have Burst -mode.

Finese isn't also that bad, as you do more criticals. Again very useful with weapons that have Burst mode...

Aimed shot is very powerful in the fallout universe, so I would not go without that one unless you are an experienced player trying something new.
Aimed shots makes it easier to take down the big baddies before they can lay waste to you with their big weapons :D

Finesse I've always liked, however, I do not always take it myself, but it is a decent trait.

True, unless your character is concentrating to Big guns. With most Big guns, Fast shot is actually considerable trait, as most of the guns under that category relies on the burst mode. And Fast shot usually allows you to make two burst in one turn (if playing in turn mode), and thus you deal a lot of damage to baddies. Same applies to throwing weapons (grenades and such)

Especially with sniping and melee type characters the aimed shot is very usefull, and there I agree with you that then new players should not take the Fast shot... ;)

So, basically it depends on what type of character you play and what weapon category are you concentrating...

Despite my earlier post, I'm considering a sniper/energy weapon user. For now, he'll go with the Gifted trait (I always take that one) and maybe I'll try Finesse too.

Litte spoilers ahead.
There is almost no reason to not have Gifted/Fast shot in Tactics if you play with CTB. It's obscene, yeah I think Sniper is broken, I didn't check the 1.27 patch to see if they fixed it. If they didn't just go with more/better criticals, and tag energy weapons. As soon as you get an energy weapon, you just tear through that game, and if you get the special energy weapon from one of the missions, it smashes everything in the end game so fast without aimed shots, they just become uneeded. The thing about Tactics, is unlike Fallout 2, the end game enemies have mediocre armor ratings so Fast shot is always worth it. Broken down Tactics imo looks like this
Early game: Fight humans then death claws, low leveled, aimed shots not needed due to lack of enemy armor
Middle game: Fight mutants then some humans, mutants have no chance against burst weapons and there armor is fairly weak so again, aimed shots not needed. The other humans you fight only get Enviornmental armor, and you can break through that pretty well without aiming, and you only fight, I think 3 humans in power armor as well, and its only regular power armor, so you and your team can smash it fairly easily.
Late game: Fight robots, from what I've seen robots have deep HP but crap armor, and they get crushed by energy weapons.
I went through the game with a party of 4.
I found controlling any more became a huge hassle, and while i'm on the subject, if you do use burst weapons, use them on your personal character only, it becomes to hard to move as a group and prevent more than one character from spraying your entire party.
My party was basically this:
1Me, used energy weapons, ended game with special energy rifle
2Energy weapon/Big gun specialist used rockets mid game and laser rifle endgame
3Energy weapon/sniper used small guns mid game and pulse rifle endgame
4Small gun/doctor/repair used small guns whole game, guass rifle endgame.

I tore through the game fairly easily, reloading only a few times. I just moved my group all together on active watch and walked through most of the game.

The people at No Mutants Allowed have explained that Sniper isn't broken at all. Most people think it broken because they disregard the part about needing a luck roll to upgrade to a critical hit.

Why?

I personally don't like GIfted at all, as it makes all the skills lower, and thus the early stages of the game would be harder. Yeah, you get more points to used to stats, but still the drawback of having all skills lowered is too high...

I don't agree. Gifted makes the overall game a lot easier, since you qualify more easily for some perks. Besides, the lowered skills don't count toward the point where it costs more to raise a skill. The only drawback is, indeed, in the early game. Personally, I'd take Gifted anyday.
On a offhand-thought: Gifted + Skilled + Divine Favour at lvl 14 with the "saved" perk slot from level 12... Would that be feasible?
