Mkay, I was *just* playing BGII with ToB installed and was backstabbing summons to test damage. In the dialogue window the damage was displayed, however, above that it said "Nonuple Multiplier". Well, all of the Assassins I have played before had a maximum multiplier of x7 (Septuple) so I went to the character sheet and there it was, my backstab multiplier was x9. I have checked without any items on and it's still at the same amount. I have never seen a backstab multiplier go that high. The character is at level twenty one.
Is this a bug or did I ignore some part of the class? If it is a bug, what could have caused this?
Note that I have a character, also human, that is a level twenty five Assassin dualed to a Cleric but her multiplier is at x7.
I have no mods installed and I have the latest patch.
If no one knows, I could provide the stats of the character as well as the proficiencies and so forth.

I figured it out. Apparently it's a bug within the game that lets you get additional backstab multipliers. It works with any character that can hide in shadows, so, all of the rangers, the monk and all of the thieves. I tried to see if there is a cap to the multiplier but there wasn't... or at least I didn't reach it. I performed it fifty times and and stopped there with the character's backstab multiplier being at x107. Almost 2,000 damage a hit with the Sword of the Mask +5 and 240 damage with a fist. Imagine what could be done with Assassination.

This (Bizarre backstab damage) has been a topic of debate since the game was released. I think your the first person who has actually cracked the right answer. What an amazing exploit. Congratulations. - Curdis !

Thanks. But it's a bug after all. The most I was able to get without any bugs was about 270 or so damage.

I believe it is the extra addition of those "special" classes on top of the base class and the game's failure to erase that addition. You can kind of mix the abilities of similar classes. Like, all classes with the Hide in Shadows ability are based off of thieves. Monks, Archers, Rangers, Beast Master's and Swashbucklers can backstab and do have a backstab multiplier of x1. All the bug does is increase it due to an error in erasing the the addition of the odd class.
