Pets in Fable 2
Pets in Fable 2
Now, we all know that dogs are confirmed to be in the game and there may or may not be any compromise to that. After reading Adahn's posts back in the Dog or no dog thread, I decided to start one about different types of pets aside from a dog. Now, what type of animal do you want as a pet, other than a dog?

''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price
I definetly think that if they're going for the whole dog thing, they should let you chose what breed of dog - or that the dog turns more evil as you do or more good as you do. Maybe from a Labrador Retriever he turns into a Doberman, or he turns into a Saint Bernard if you're good (I dunno).
But enough about muts, I want Cats. Felines. Lions or Tigers or Panthers or somesuch. Bobcats will do, Siberian Lynxes as well. Some stealthy, hit-n-run type feline with the ability to shred those little hobs limb from limb. Most people on WoW for instance always had felines with them for DPS - rarely employing dogs. So why not have a cat here?
In Black & White the Tiger/Lion was always the best fighter, and the Wolf was weaker if quicker. (which doesn't make sense but w/e) And I believe Fable's creators are letting a lot of people down by sticking just with the mongrel.
So all in all, I'd like to see some felines. Possibly even a hawk or an eagle of pray would be nice. That can fly overhead, spot things and go back to you, harass the enemy (maybe not kill them) but keep them busy. Possibly in the form of crowd-control while you take out the others. Or it can even blind long-range enemies by gouging their eyeballs out with it's claws. Definetly something to think about no?

You know what I would like? It would be cool if they let you trap any animal and also keep him or her. But I wouold probably catch an ocelot. And Adahn no offense (really) but you obsess over felines. But I would like you to have the dog too and let him stay at one of your houses or pubs or stores. And one more thing to comment on. He said the dog was fully morphable which means you CAN change him and make him evil. And I quote from the Vid. "You could change him from an evil doubermen to a sweet border collie" or something like that re watch it. But I would like a wolf if anything. I posted the creatures and animals i would like in the thread "Monsters in fable 2"
games are fun and all but I was wondering when do you get a life?
I'm not 'obsessing' over anything there newbie - I'm simply stating my preference in a very vocal form. If it hasn't come off clear enough I'll repeat it for you, I don't like dogs. And as a matter of fact the video I watched must have cut out that part you mention, otherwise would I have posted that suggestion? Think -real- hard. The whole catching and taming sounds a bit too much like World of Warcraft to me, but to each his own.

If they add animals (meaning not just a dog) period, I just hope that the animal thing doesn't look incredibly dumb like in the game FATE. Sure even if it's still a standard house dog or animal of any kind, I just hope it even looks like it could physically put up a fight (like a rotweiller or pitbull or somethin, not a little fru-fru like spoiled rich dog).
Originality in video games has gone completely down aside from graphics, but it's also the least quality focused on in many reviews, as mainly gamers want customization and gameplay hours rather than complete originality.
So Fable 2 having different animals that you can tame and use for battle, it may not be original but it's an additive quality that would probably help the game more than hurt it.
Catching & Taming and/or using pets for battle, that also sounds a lot like Jade cacoon, Jade Cacoon two, Dungeon Siege 2, Every Pokemon Game, Yoshi from Super Mario, Various final fantasy games that allow beastmastering, Digimon, Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinter Nights 2, Icewind Dale 2, Temple of Elemental Evil, Titan Quest, FATE, Diablo 2, Black And White 1 & 2, Dungeons and Dragons 2nd, 3rd, and 3.5 edition, and about a hundred other games. The whole catching and taming sounds a bit too much like World of Warcraft to me, but to each his own.

Yeah I'll remember. - I'm sorry Assassin Reaper for calling you a newbie even though you've been here for a matter of months. In essence I didn't mean it in a negative way, I'm not insulting you - and I'm not belittling you. It's just a nickname, but seeing as it's considered flaming I take it back and you have my full apologies.
Anyway, enough about that -

Agreed, I'd love for more games to be like the old Fallout or Baldur's Gate - so long as they had the same depth, more dialogues, more options, more choices - most getting your way on what you want and having a rich, compelling and difficult main story to follow like in Planescape Torment. Hell I'd rather my game be linear, and have a compelling storyline, rather than being completely and utterly open with no substance what so ever.
If in Fable 2 you'll be able to get married, own a house, have kids, have a dog - that's already hitting hard on Harvest Moon. If you tame whatever animal you like, that's hitting let's say Pokemon. If it's all open and yadda yadda you got your basic Morrowind right there. So long story short, no there ain't no originality - and the graphics... all games just seem to keep upgrading their graphics to make you buy new pcs and get new graphics cards and such. Why don't they just stick with what works and that's it?
And as for the animal... well I just want for there to be a little more variety.

As for animals, I would want a bear as a pet since they are big and make good protection, especially when it comes to dealing with a small group of enemies. Another animal I fancy for a pet is a porcupine. Kind of liked it since it curls up into a ball of spikes and anybody who touches it will get pricked.

see the thing is i never played any of those games. But so what if it was in there capturing pets would be fun no? I mean like you would have to buy or find traps and stuff and if it is like a foot clapping thing theyd have to be healed. But it dont matter as long as theres an animal. Also i did not take offense to you calling me a newb im not denying i ant so yeah

Yeah. You need a good melee companion to keep the enemies at bay. Also would be useful for those who want to specialise in ranged attacks.Adahn wrote:A bear? Now that's an idea. I guess a bear would be a pretty good idea. Good for tanking anyway - especially if you're going Mage.
Another animal I had in mind is a cheetah, though I think they're much suited for pursuing enemies than to tackle them head on (since speed is their speciality).

Hmm that would be a pretty decent idea, if an enemy runs away it could pounce and bear it to the ground. Allowing you to catch up, or finish up with it's friends. Really you could work a lot of interesting ideas. And think about it! Seeing as you're already getting a house, kids and a wife - why not have your pet give you the morning paper! Comfort is where it's at ^.^

Oh that would be cool as well - the creator did say you found the pup as a kid yourself. It's only fair that if they implemented more animals that they'd pop up during your infancy and grow as you do through the ages. Possibly when you become an old geezer, the dog would also become less useful.

Not sure if this is old news or not but a video from Youtube about Fable 2 Peter did discuss on how the dog would change as you changed from Neutral to Evil or Neutral to Good and so on..he also mentioned that the dog will react as you change from Good to Evil..Example..he stated that if your character is evil that the dog will sometimes pee on the people you kill. Also that this dog..will not embarass you in anyway in town..he didn't mention anything out of town though..oh and also..the dog will follow you, no matter how far you leave it..it might take time..I think the only way of permentatly getting rid of it is letting something kill it. Which, even in a game..thats kinda...cruel..
Meh cruel shmule - I don't want no dog following me around. Although... if the dog was evil looking and bit people and was a loyal dog of war, tempered to hunt people down and eat their faces off I *might* be inclined to tolerate it.

An eagle would be cool. I'd like one very much. I mean it could be fast and it could scout more vast areas than a dog but the benefits in scouting would reduce its fighting capabilities. Maybe it could go and beat somone's head and then you could shoot the head of the foe, so the eagle/hawk would be a good scout and disturbing attacker that gives you time to run for instance
yeah, like other people said, birds would be nice. It would be good to have a bird's eye view of your terrain, and tell your bird to drop its load onto unsuspecting bald villagers - a target mini game.
If you could enchant your dog/cat/mouse/horse/elephant/bird/lemming/tree/lemmingtree, to have a fire bite or something, that would be cool.
oh and

The cool thing will be that Lionhead are trying to make the dog as non-annoying as possible.... so after people get over the prejudice that an AI dog is going to be annoying, it might be a great effect.Adahn wrote:Meh cruel shmule - I don't want no dog following me around....eat their faces off I *might* be inclined to tolerate it.
