Strange Problem

Post by Cthulu84 »

Okay, I have an odd problem here.. sound related.

Music/SFX/EVERYTHING ELSE works perfectly. For some reason however, whenever I beat the game, the narration doesn't happen, the images just flash by at a fairly brisk pace and nothing is said.

HALP!

I'm running Fallout 2 version 1.05 (never tried earlier versions, though I doubt this messed it up)
I'm running Windows XP
It's a seriously annoying issue, as EVERYTHING else sound related works just fine. GRRRRRRR!!!

The problem also persists in fallout. Can anyone help me with this extremely FRUSTRATING problem!!! I tried putting on the subtitles to compensate, but in Fallout 2 the screens just flash by with no subtitles, and in fallout they have the subtitles but still flash by obscenely fast!

You didn't see the end-game cutscene at all?

Then it could be video related as well...

Could you post some more info about your computer (OS, processor, video card, sound card, RAM...)? It could help to narrow the problem...

System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Computer:
Intel Celeron CPU 2.60 GHZ
1.00 GB of RAM

Here's the full problem for each game described in detail:
Fallout:
Sound and Music works fine. Everything.
FMV movies work fine.
The FINAL cut scenes "what happened where" Flash by extremely quickly
with NO sound whatsoever. If I turn on the subtitles, they do appear but the images still flash by to fast to read.
The FINAL FMV "vault dweller walking away" works fine as does the credits.

Fallout 2:
Sound and Music works fine Everything.
FMV movies work fine.
The FINAL cut scenes "what happened where" Flash by extremely quickly with NO sound whatsoever. If I turn on the subtitles, they do NOT appear and the images still flash by quickly.
All other FMV and audio works fine.

I know this problem is totally bizzare, I haven't heard of anyone encountering them before. I've re-installed the games several times, to no avail from the original cds. I also tried installing them using .iso files made of my creation, still nothing. Also, I haven't had this problem before, so I really have no clue how to stop this. The current installations are off of my cds. Please, if anyone has ANY idea, that'd be great.

Oh and my Audio card is Realtek AC'97 Audio. (the drivers are completely updated as well) I have no idea what to do here, I'd love any suggestions.
If anyone can help me I'll reward you with one million internets!

Same problem as yours, with the same sound-card.

Solved it by reducing to 0 the direct-x sound accelleration.

All you need to do is run dxdiag and decrease to 0 the sound acceleration lever.

hey thanks, forgot I posted here, I fixed it already. Did exactly that, thanks though! I've seen this problem popping up on other boards so I've made sure to attempt to be vigilant about it.
