Venom Weapons

Post by BucMan55 »

Do the Venom Throwing Dagger, Venom Shuriken, or Elven Venom Bow work in the game?? Also how does the game calculate the damage for the poison portion of these weapons? Any explanation on what the x5, x7, x8 numbers mean on those weapons?? I assume the % is the chance on hit that the venom is supposed to take effect.

They do work...as far as how the percentages work, I don't know. Usually you will be able to tell if a creature is poisoned if it continues to flinch even when you aren't actively attacking it. Similiar to "bleeding wounds" in that sense.

The thing that always struck me as odd was poison doesn't really make all that much difference. At least not that I have ever noticed. When fighting a low health creature, they die quick enough anyway regardless of what weapon you use, and the more powerful creatures (moonbeasts, borloths) it doesn't seem to kill them any quicker.

I did notice that if I hit a thief a couple of times with a venom bow and then stood there with my shield up, I could basically watch him die from the poisoning...but I didn't find that to be particularly fun after the novelty of it wore off..e.g after the first two times. :)

After a few more experiments with the venom bow, I can see how it works. Trouble is you dont see the extra damage it causes similar to the bleed weapons or Inflict Wounds skills. The only real way to tell it worked is to have it go into effect on a creature with just a HP or two left after damage is calculated...

Think about it, if the arrow hit only does 5 damage, how stinkin much can the poison do even if it took effect on that hit.

All I know is when that rogue kept hittin me wiht the venom throwing dagger it did alot more than 2-3 points of damage.

That's what I meant earlier when I said it didn't seem to make much difference. It does work, but I don't rely on it in the same way that I might rely on say...a winter weapon. Those always freeze unless the creature is immune to freezing damage, so I like them better than the venom weapons. They just seem to work better and are IMO more useful. :)
