My current character, a Kensai (playing Tutu) which will be dualled to thief near the start of BG2 for roleplaying reasons, has stats (after using all tomes in BG as she is near the final battle now) of:
Str 19
Dex 19
Con 19
Int 12
Wis 14
Char 16
Not quite as good as other people's stats but they are the best stats I've had out of all the characters I have ever played with. (I can't be bothered with rolling continuously to get really high stats so I just roll til I get reasonably decent stats and go from there )
These stats will of course be higher by the end of SoA and ToB
Are you certain about that? I've had a 4 CHA and helped Aldeth and recieved good rewards. It might be that I had a different character do the talking though (my lil' Gnome was in the back). It might also be based on REP.
It could also be that 3 is the critical number in the same way that 18 is critical for getting the +1 knife and the six poison antidotes near the beginning of the game. When I know for sure that it wasn't something else, I will confirm it. Now I have Tutu, I can give my character that rod as a charisma adjusting item and try it out with different levels of charisma.
Klorox, to let you know about the effect of Charisma and rep on the Aldeth quest,I thought that it might be interesting to play with a charisma of 2 in order to find out just what effect it has on the game. I haven't finished it yet but so far I have had noticed a few interesting changes. The first is that you cannot talk yourself out of a fight with the flaming fist enforcer south of Beregost. This does have the advantage of gaining some decent armour early on, but as I am playing a good guy I tried to avoid the fight. The second unusual effect was that Xan wouldn't even join me! The third expected effect was that I missed out on several rewards. The fourth which I already mentioned is not getting the Aldeth quest. I discovered that this is indeed a combination of Reputation and Charisma. However, it might be more than that as I introduced other low charisma characters into the game to test it out and the results I got didn't agree with what you said about a charisma of four. Even with a rep of 20 and a charisma of 4, I didn't get the quest. This could be because I was playing Tutu, but what I suspect is that though your reputation doesn't increase higher than 20, there is a counter that continues above 20. I've still got to test that though. I think I'll start a thread in BG1 on this topic as it more properly belongs to that forum.
interesting that there is no message to say that you have maxed out at 20.
my goody-goody party should probably have a rep of about 30 what with all the old ladies I have helped across the road and kittens I have rescued from trees.
as it is, I am on 20. Jaheira doesn't like it much, but so what - she hasn't left. perhaps she's hoping we'll play with my ugly stick or otherwise get a bit naughty.

You think she's bad now? In BG1, I had to play with the volume off after I got over an 18 REP with Jaheira in the party. She's absolutely unbearable!
In BG2, Jaheira is Neutral Good, I don't care what her character sheet says. Every action points this way. Argh!
