3 character party, any advice?
hey guys,
i have made a 3 char party, a fighter, a cleric/theif and a mage - necromancer, it is working quite well so far but i was wondering if you had any advice with what to do with them.
the fighter is specialising in 2 weopons - longswords, flails and war hammers.
i managed to get my theif really good at detect traps by accident instead of set traps which is annoying but i cant be bothered to start again.
do you think i should dual-class the mage or do you have any advice for items?
any help would be appreciated

Your selection of characters struck me as odd to be honest.
I wouldn't imagine that group to be the most versatile or strong to use.
If i'd had to pick three i'd opt for a dwarf barbarian (hp and warhammer/axwe combo) , halfling fighter/thief use with tuigans bow and short sword and a elven sorcerer wielding a staff.
Items that would benefit tho...
The +2 longsword which gives silence ability isnt to hard to acquire since its in the graveyard against one guy.
Boots of avoidance (graveyard grave then follow the clues) + travellers robe (bought from ribald) = -6 against missiles - this would be a bonus to have for your necromancer to have.
For your cleric thief i'd suggest getting the maulers arm+2 - 18 str from the copper coronet, couple this with the buckler+1 and studded leather armor +1 from maevars guild house its good starting equipment to have.
If i remember correctly the staff mace+2 is backstabable - u can get this from a variety of places. The staff of striking can be found in one of the temples - give this to ur mage and whack away. The boots of grounding is a good addition to have for your fighter against druids and mages.
The above items are easy to get a hold of and benefit until you get more powerful equipment. But for now you have to start somewhere and you could alot worse than the equipment i have mentioned above.

I'll jump on this bandwagon. If I wanted a max 3 character party, I would have done:
F/Th or F-->Th
F->Cl or Ran->Cl

Since you have specialised in longswords, there is a very good one that can be acquired early on at SPOILER The Gate District, behind a hidden door. It is guarded by a Lich, but if you just send in a hidden thief and grab the sword, he can be out again before the Lich starts on you. The Lich is tough but with that sword it is possible to kill it even at the beginning of the game. However, you don't have to if you find it too difficult

Sure, you can color it however you want. The difference between a Berzerker->Th and a Kensai->Th really depends on how many levels you want to take. A berzerker engaged is better at level 9 than a kensai; waiting until 12 or 13 evens the score more. If you can wait until 15, then the kensai pretty much wins. I always play though single player because I like the NPCs. Here are a few of the strongest characters I've ever played (all with ToB):
-Kensai (dual 12)-> Theif: absolutely unstoppable; pick a weapon and go- Carsomyr was my favorite because of UAI. I also was fond of longswords.
-Kensai->Mage: Specialize in staff; get the staff of the magi; kill whoever you want. This is especially easy for mindflayers.
-Ranger->Cleric: Disgusting; the best summoner in the game because you get the Druid spells as well. You have I can't remember how many 7th level slots full of earth elementals. Dual weild flails/hammers/both and go to town.

alrite thanks for all the advice guys, i am having fun so its all good as far as i am concerned. i know you are saying the party isnt that great but they are the best party i have had, done both dragons, kangaxx and a load of other stuff and i havent even done the whole shadow theif bodhi thing so i am laughing.
anyway! my fighter is specialised in longsword, warhammer and 2 weopon style, he is human. the thief/cleric specialising in warhammer and weopon and shield style. he is a gnome. the necromancer is human specialising in dagger, sling and quarter staff. dont know if you can help me any more with that info.
any more advice on what items would be good would be a great help, i am currently planning on using the equaliser with my fighter (and another long sword), crom faeyr with the theif/cleric and staff of the magi with my necro. what do you guys think about that?

Your party is obviously strong enough to take you through ToB, so there's no need to pick up another NPC. If you are considering to add a 4th party member for ToB just wait until you started ToB. The NPC's XP will be raised to 2,500,000 then. If you haven't done watcher's keep in SoA you can get him/here to high levels there easily.
There is a new class for ToB, but if you installed the expansion with the original, it was available with the original. It's Wild Mage. I don't find it very exciting, since it makes a point of being unpredictable. I'm a fan of tactics, and so find being turned into a squirrel or something every once in a while only irritating.
As to your party, I would only object to your thief/cleric. Since both classes have so little edge in terms of thac0, this makes for quite a poor fighter. I always combine thief with fighter, which, if it's an elf with high dex, gives me an extra archer that in that capacity usually surpasses even my single class fighters. Backstabbing seems cool, but usually doesn't work anyway with such a poor thac0 as pertains to a single class thief. For my leader I always pick Paladin, giving me some quick healing capabilities, bonus to morale, stats, saving throws, and access to the only +5 weapon in the game.

The cleric/thief is actually the best of your 3 characters, he fullfills both the role of the healer and the role of the thief. With "draw upon holy might", "righteous magic" and the staff of the ram he can do incredible backstab damage, rogue HLAs (like the deadly spike traps) are the best and the high level cleric spells can be extremely useful.
The answer to your last post is obvious, you can import/export characters in a multiplayer game all the time.

oh right, well he is the worst atm! wow you know a lot, lol im useless! anyway now i know you can add characters to existing games i think what i will do is load my current game, make another 3 char party WITH my current one so i have a 6 player game, then keep the 3 safe and do the fiend summoning trick to level them quick! what do you recon? anyway i still need to know what your ideas of a new perfect 3 player party is! i have made a new post of the perfect 3 char partys so people know what it is. thanks guys
If you start a ToB only game you get characters with 2,500,000 XP which you can export immediately. If you really need more XP there are better ways for accumulating. Using the cheat console or an editor are the fastest ones.
