Levitating?

Post by Enchantra »

Ok I can't help it I am blonde (well on the inside) I cast levitate on myself and nothing happens. I succeed at casting the spell but I don't fly?? I don't really know what to expect but maybe I am not pressing the fly button or something or maybe at such a low level I am no good at flying.

I also wanted clarify, when you bring up your inventory, the bar at the top is how much weight you can carry?

Also if you see creatures in the game that don't attack you...can u attack them or is it mean. I am not a natural killer in these games. I only kill when I have to. But if they are just for scenery then I may as well go for it.

O.K thanks in advance for your help and wow is this game great! I just killed that horrible dude on the bridge YAY! That was fun.

After you cast the levitation spell or use a rising force potion, you just have to look up and use the W key, if on PC.
I don't remember what the button is on Xbox, its been so long since I played it on the box.
Don't worry it took me awhile to figure out how to do or use everything...the repair tongs... So simple, but I was so dumb...
As for the creatures, If they attack, I'll kill, if not I leave them be.

Be sure you keep an eye on the length of the operative spell, and its intensity. A very short length and high intensity spell could see you climbing extremely fast, and meeting your old friend, the ground, just as fast. In many little pieces.

Ohh dear I am petrified about flying now! I cast feather on myself so I decided to jump off a cliff and I still hit the ground pretty hard. I haven't cast it since. Do I have to do anything special about that one?

Feather is a spell that temporarily reduces your encumbrance... not for jumping off cliffs (for that, you'd want slowfall, or levitate).

The best way to figure out all the different spells (short of just playing with them) is to consult the small game manual that should have been included with the game when you purchased it. Inside, you'll find a list of all the magic schools, a brief description of each, and then a brief description of the different kinds of spells within each school (i.e. levitate, slowfall, feather, jump, etc. etc.) I found that most helpful, hope it helps you also :)

Ahh I am norty, I have printed off the manual but I just assumed that feather would relate to falling coz it has in previous games I have played...laziness on my behalf!! Thanks for the advise, I levitated by the way...very cool! I was very slow at it I could only walk but I will find ways to get faster.

If you increase the power of the spell, you'll rise and lower faster, but that also costs more. So it's usually a case of a tradeoff between power and spell length. Alchemists can also mix levitating potions. Those are handy to have for those moments when your spell runs out in mid-flight. Nevermind dashing to your death on the rocks, below--think of how embarassing that would be! ;)

Just to note here that this is one of those cases where Alchemy will serve you **much** better than spells.
Once your Alchemy abilities are good enough the potions you can make are far superior to any spells or enchanted items that you can create. With homemade potions you'll be able to levitate at a much greater magnitude (faster) for a considerably longer duration.

As stated though, be sure you have Slowfall.

Yes and if you can fortify your Int: right before using your alchemy, the chances for getting better potions, greatly increases. :)

As a result of some interesting experimentation I found that 1 point of slowfall will negate all fall damage. More often than not 1 point of anything when enchanting will cost almost nothing (for an extended period too).

If you can get constant slowfall 1 point, you'll never have to worry about fall damage.

Pure cheese, which is why I've for years used a mod that disables this (among other interesting features). I do wonder, though, that they left this limburger in the final product. Each to their own, of course.

OK so how do I increase the length or duration of my spells? I have just been buying them. Should I be making them with the spell people? That was kind of confusing me. Can u ever return a spell or resell it?
