Lightsabers

Post by Jan Dodonna »

So I'm following the duel wield pattern for two reasons:

1) Extra upgrade options
2) The Original KotOR categorized the double bladed saber under the Two-Weapon fighting feat meaning you're gonna get the same bonuses from dual wield anyway.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out whether to use a

Lightsaber + Short Lightsaber

or

Lightsaber + Lightsaber
.

I use master flurry so I have no weapon penalty. Only the dual wield penalty. So basically it breaks down to:

More chances to hit vs. less damage.

Any ideas?

You should probably use two normal lightsabers instead of one normal and one short. Short lightsabers really have no advantage except they look cool. Plus you get more damage from using the normal one. :)

Using Short Lightsabers effectively gives you a +2 to attack, as opposed to more damage when using the regular Lightsaber.

(for Jedi Weapon Masters this can become +3 or +4 to attack, depending on their ranks in Improved Two Weapon Fighting)

Supposing I were to use a lightsaber in the main hand and then Freedon Nadd's Short Lightsaber in the off hand? That knockdown part looks nice even if it's easy to resist...

I wouldn't expect too much of the low-DC effects. By the time you get the lightsaber, every enemy you couldn't easily take down without it will save against it.

And likewise, you will probably hit every time, (unless you don't have particularly high Dexterity) so I think it'd be best to go with two full sized sabers.

The only problem with Freedon Nadd's Shorty is that you can't upgrade it at all.
If your dead set on using a shorty, use one and upgrade it. Or you can do like I did and make a Freedon Nadd character and use both. Mine were both orange. One Freedon Nadd's, one upgraded shorty. :)

Which One...

As said it is all a question of whether to go with more attack or more damage. Thinking logically when you reach the later stages of the game and are against harder characters then the first priority is to actually hit them. With this in mind you should consider using two normal sabers until you reach Malachor 5 and then start using the short and normal combo.
Alternatively you could place something in the second lightsaber that will increase your attack, compensating for the lack of bonus that the short blade provides. You will also have better damage as a normal lightsaber provides more damage.

Therefore the best solution to the problem is to add a lens etc that boosts attack bonus to your second lightsaber (normal) then you will have both the attack and damage benefits.

I agree, upgrade your short lightsaber so it has the potential to perform better than the normal one.

It actually doesnt matter if you are wielding a short or a normal in your off hand, they just have to be upgraded well... for wep master it wont be of any problem wielding a normal one(this was just an example).
