I was wondering if Steal works correctly in CE I have seen posts of people saying they got spells/weapons/armor/ect... using steal, but I have never gotten anything other than gold.
Also does Alchemy work in CE? I have raised up to 15 on a character trying to see if it ever did anything, but I have not seen any change in how many Kataals I get when I kill something and pick up the item. I know it says collecting them from the wild, which is what I think I am doing by killing creatures, and picking up what they drop as they don't exactly grow or spawn on the ground or on trees randomly, or atleast not that I know of or have ever found?
I am a bit doubtful of the whole alchemy skill myself. I have never noticed any difference with it myself. You're correct about what you are doing, you are collecting kataals in the wild...even creatures indoors drop kataals so it isn't that you are going about it the wrong way, the skill itself is a bit dodgy.
Steal does work.
I am sure you know this but...you must have sneak raised to 3 before you can put points into steal. Your sneak skill must be raised before your steal skill as your steal is dependent on it. In other words, you would need a sneak of 6 in order to have a steal of 6.
Another thing about steal I noticed is that it does depend on what "villain" you are fighting with. You need to fight with a melee weapon for the skill to work, and with low level creatures (one of the wimpier goblins that hang around by Fargrove for example) you may only get an extra health potion and maybe 10 gold. A Barrogrim soldier drops more and the renegade demi-goths in the Forbidden Lands drop a lot of stuff. Typically a witch or Bladewitch are the ones that drop more spellbooks and bosses that you fight for a class promotion are also good for dropping stuff.
his supply of the milk of human kindness is plainly short by several gallons
I often use polearms which don't seam to work with steal at all, and other than that I often use weapons with magic weaponry effects. Any ideas for what would be a good weapon to use for trying to steal better? I have steal at 12 atm on my thief.
Hmm, I would think a polearm would work. Try using just a basic short sword or fangtip blade...something like that. Level 12 seems plenty for steal. I am assuming you gained the skill in normal game play and didn't edit it in?
Even with a lower level creature (goblin, regular thief) you should notice a few things dropping before they die, but with them you might want to use a dagger so you do a bit less damage.

Yes all gained legit that I am asking about. I have another char who I keep changing classes/skills/stats on just to play around with, but I never mention that as anything that goes wrong with that char I assume is a result of editing.
here is how alchemy works as i've noticed.
you kill 5 wolves or 5 rats for example and they leave behind 5 wolf manes or 5 rat tails on the ground
which you pick up.
if you have alchemy then the number of nether kaatals that you collect in total not the amount you see on your screen but the screen that is your inventory and equip screen with the nether kataals will be more then the 5 wolf manes or 5 rat tails etc like with 1 skill you may get double the of each wolf mane or rat tail that you picked up i don't know how much you get at 15 alchemy. but it does work.try using up all of the one or two of a nether kataal and then getting more of a some of athe nether katall from a creature that drops it. and count how many you pick up and then see how many you have in your inventory scren of that ingredient.

Kathy : you're welcome. got any tricksters or sorceror ori enchentress or war witches handy to test it out on?
SerpWar: I believe strike might help with steal as well since steal lets you take items or to be more precise makes the target drop some items when you hit them in close quarter melee combat. I think a winter dagger would be good for stealing since it freezes them and does damage
or you can equip that in your main hand and then hit them with another weapon if you are dual wielding.
here is what I have found with steal at level 8 so far.
spellbooks mostly nether and and arcane spellbooks mostly blade of baal, fireball, magic missle and some others.
those are from goblin mages, goblin warlocks, dread witches dire witchs fathien bladewitches barrowgrim wizards, occult apprentices.
gold and greater heals and potions of power from thieves , grave robbers, thief-brigands, master thieves, drey elves, fathien elite, bladewitches, goblins and goblin balistas, and from the elven knight archer and master spirits.
lockpicks and master lockpicks as well as gold from the all the thieves and drey elves and all the fathien elite and drey elf mercenaries.
plate mail armor, plate leggings, plate boots, plate shoulders, plate guantlets and a knights helm and knights belt from the various renegade demigoths but I got all that from a renegade urgoth. as wel las a 2 hander sword.
got a rune spell of spittting shield from a wylvan renegade and some arcane spellbooks as well from him. the thrall and zaur renegades gave leather armor and studded armor stuff. i also got a kama of the moon or 2 from a few of those renegades. so steal is very helpful.
i wouldn't use a polearm though to steal witth
because it requires close quarters combat
and a polearm might not be close enough.

Yes steal works well when it is higher and you knock things off like spell books, armor, katals, rarely rings and always gold, And Alchemy does work the higher your skill the more katals you do gater from the wilds and animals you get them from... Normally you'd only gathrer one dragon tooth from a single dragon... But after picking one up with a alchemy of 15 you just got anywhwer from 3 to 4 extra teeth.
