Tortured souls go silent

Post by QuenGalad »

I've recently downloaded the tortured souls mod, version 5.0. There are some problems with it, and i'd be very grateful if someone could help me there.

First, I know there is a newer wersion around, but when I try to download it from blackwyrm's lair, my antivirus shuts the connection down, informing me the file contains a trojan. Now, I may be quite a coward here :o , but i'm not going to get my comp trojan-ed while writing a very important thesis, so i shut it down. The older wersion didn't do that, so i downloaded it instead. If anyone might explain why it is so, i'd be obliged to know.

Second, after a long and painful installation, the mod finally works, but has no dialogues. It requires substituing the dialog.tlk file, and i did that, but the dialogue never showed up. No matter, was it with a new npc (Katchiko), or good old ones (Valygar) - silence. What is weird, the dialogue window does pop up, but it's empty. Weirder still, you can still talk to people by pressing 1,2,3... buttons, but you never know what you said. I don't need to say it's completely unplayable that way.

I did read on the mod's site it required baldurdash-weidu fixpack, v1.6. Wanted to get it, but the source is blackwyrm's lair only, and the fixpack also makes my antivirus scream, same way as with the mod, really. I don't understand anything from it. And i really wanted to play that band of samurais...

1. Why aren't you asking this questions on blackwyrm's forum? You will receive right answer with much more probability there.
2. Your antivirus is paranoiac. Do you really think that blackwyrm is a hacker's headquarter? :D I've just downloaded Baldurdash-WeiDU v1.6.4 and checked it with Nod32 (very effective antivirus, and i always have latest virus database installed). Nothing, archive is clear.

If you read more carefully, the virus thing was only part of her question. She also asked help to the dialogue problem, and I would actually be suprised if no one here can help with that, at least somewhat ;)

Actually, I would be paranoid as well if files from certain site all seem to include trojan. Especially if it's first time I'm trying to download from that specific place. So, I would at least have high suspicions wether I could trust such place, especially if I had something important on computer like she has.
And asking about viruses in the sites forum may result "no" answer even though they have viruses in the files. If I were including viruses to files in my site, and someone asks about it, I would surely deny the existence of such things.

In my opinion, better be safe and sure in these situations. ;)

Thanks for all the understanding, Kipi :)

I'ts exactly like you say. I never got anything from that site before, so I'm playing safe, having only a three week's time to end and defend the wretched thing on final exams. So I'm not taking any chances. And, well, I can always ask about dialogue on blackwyrm, but preferably not about the virus thing. Cf Kipi's post :D

And if my antivirus proves to be paranoiac, Xandax, can you recommend some good software therapeutist?

Why not? If you sure that files contain viruses, let other users know about it.

Well, BD-Weidu v1.6 + TS v6.11 - author of mod will try to help you in this case only (but i'm sure everything will be fine if you will follow installation notes). He can be very rough with silly questions ;)
Personally i downloaded many files from blackwyrmlair and never had any issues with viruses or trojans.
